NEA BANS SALE OF RAW FRESHWATER FISH AT ALL FOOT OUTLETS

The National Environment Agency or NEA announced a blanket ban on the serving of raw freshwater fish by any food outlet with immediate effect. Food stalls include hawker centres, coffee shops, food courts and canteens. Restaurants are exempted from this ban as they generally observe hygiene standards and source fish from suppliers who deal with fish intended for raw consumption.

MAN IN COMA 10 DAYS AFTER EATING RAW FISH

10 days after having a dish of yusheng (raw fish) porridge at Tiong Bahru Food Centre on 15th November, 52 year-old Mr Sim Tham Chun suffered from severe headaches and seizures which put him into a coma and in critical condition at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH).

ANOTHER MAN LOSES HAND AND LEGS TO MYSTERIOUS BACTERIA

66 year-old Mr Chew, a gardener, has had to have his 2 legs and left hand amputated after he caught the rare but lethal Group B Streptococcus (GBS) bacteria. The bacteria infection turned his limbs black and nearly killed him if doctors had not acted in time to remove his infected limbs.
