A private Facebook group Singapore Expats with over 16.5K members has recently been under fire by some netizens. According to complaints sent to All Singapore Stuff, the group has seen an increasing war of words between foreign expats and locals.

A foreign netizen wrote on Quora to ask why Singaporeans find it socially acceptable to call Caucasians "Ang Mohs" when he finds it "harsh" and feels uneasy when strangers refer to him by that name.

Sorry to hear about how you were with xenophobic remarks. No humans should be treated this way. I had similar if not worse experiences like you what have been through. When I shared my personal views about the Foreign Sports Talent Scheme(FSTS), I was being attacked by people who labelled me xenophobic, stupid, a fool and an idiot. Someone who hurled vulgarities at me and ask me to leave the country. So even a local born citizen like me are vulnerable to vicious attacks.

He started on a vicious, racist diatribe. He said, "Why are you even here, Ang Mo? You should go back to your country! Or maybe you're too stupid to get a job where you're from? You're probably not even working here. Maybe go rob a bank?"

Thus I hope you would join me that, each time we encounter a message of anger and of divide, instead of fuelling it with likes and shares, or sitting on the sideline watching it play out. We would instead stand firm and share the believe that we are better that, and that we would not allow individual incidents to damage us, and we would instead stand by our friends regardless of race, language or religion, regardless of nationality or gender orientation or sports team affiliation.

I recently made a short speech under the MHA budget debate. The speech is appended here. I have no intention to undermine any specific group. I should not have used the phrase "walking time-bombs" to describe congregations of high density. I personally get along very well with the foreign cleaners in my constituency. To them and the other foreign workers in our country, thank you for your help and please accept my sincere apology if I have caused you concern.

I am tired of the PAP for the following reasons: When Singaporeans fight for Singaporeans, the PAP calls them xenophobic. When Singaporeans asked the govt to take care of elderly Singaporeans who have to pick cardboard boxes for a living, the PAP said they did it for exercise.
