Former PAP NMP Calvin Cheng Slams Pritam Singh's Salary Donation As Wayang And Divisive Politics

PAP IB Calvin Cheng unleashed two Facebook posts to stir controversy over WP Pritam Singh's generosity for donating 50% of his salary. Calvin Cheng said Pritam Singh was participating in political theatre (wayang) by publicly announcing his salary donation while bringing up his family. Calvin Cheng said his donation was an "unnecessary sacrifice" and likened this move to a popularity contest to score political points.

WP MP Pritam Singh Will Donate 50% Of His Leader Of Opposition Salary

The Workers' Party (WP) MP Pritam Singh announced his gratuity for being given the title as Leader of Opposition. Even though Pritam Singh will be shouldering more responsibilities and spending less time with family, it is admirable how he has decided to take it upon himself to give back even more to the Singaporeans by generously donating 50% of his salary.

Opinion: The Workers Party Should Develop "One Service" App For Its Town Councils

Opinion: The Workers Party Should Develop "One Service" App For Its Town Councils

On 10 July 2020, residents of Sengkang GRC voted for The Workers Party (WP) to represent them in Parliament and also to handle their municipal matters. PAP has a Municipal Office App called "One Service" where residents can take photographs and report such matters for action. I am of the opinion that PAP will make it difficult for residents to highlight such matters by directing the residents to report directly to WP. May I suggest that WP designs a similar app to report municipal matters for Aljunied & Sengkang GRCs and Hougang SMC so that residents in their respective WP Town Councils can submit cases to for prompt action. I hope WP will implement this humble suggestion of mine.

GE2020: Mediacorp Sabo Opposition Parties With Last Minute Invitations

GE2020: Mediacorp Sabo Opposition Parties With Last Minute Invitations

The 158th media received complains from political candidates about last minute invitations to participate in political debates. Specifically, Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Bryan Lim Boon Heng criticised Mediacorp for sending an "eleventh hour" invitation. The Workers' Party (WP) may have also been given the same short lead time to make preparations for this Chinese debate. But instead of playing along to Mediacorp's games, WP decided not to attend this Chinese debate altogether. Perhaps WP was right to do a no-show as the Chinese debate turned out to be a farce. Fortunately for the opposition parties, their eloquence outshone the PAP during the English debate.

GE2020: Heng Swee Keat Sent To East Coast GRC Over Fear Of Losing To The Workers' Party

GE2020: Heng Swee Keat Sent To East Coast GRC Over Fear Of Losing To The Workers' Party

In a surprise move, Heng Swee Keat showed up at the St Anthony's Canossian nomination centre in Bedok North to file his nomination papers for East Coast GRC. WP has consistently walked the grounds of East Coast GRC. Therefore it comes with no surprise that WP commands a significant percentage of votes as seen in the previous elections, even reaching a high of 45.2% of votes in GE2011. By moving Heng Swee Keat to East Coast GRC, it seems the PAP is hoping that the "4G leader" will be able to shore up whatever remaining support the PAP has in this GRC.

This decision to step down was made "some time ago". However their decision to step down does not mean they are retiring from politics. GE2020: Smear Campaign Started Against Pritam Singh And Alfian Sa'at

With the General Elections being called soon, it appears that the PAP has started smear campaigns against opposition party members. During the Budget debate on 5 June, Pritam Singh said Singapore should be fortunate that we have citizens who are “loving critics”. Even though Pritam Singh did not name any specific person, Tan Wu Meng inferred that Pritam Singh had spoken in support of Alfian Sa'at. Tan Wu Meng then took this opportunity to smear Pritam Singh who had supposedly voiced support for Alfian Sa'at. Tan Wu Meng asked if Pritam Singh still thinks Alfian Sa'at is a "loving critic" of Singapore based on selected screenshots of Alfian's comments, and went a step further to accuse Pritam Singh of being a "loving critic" himself if he supports Alfian.

GE2020: Workers Party Politician Bernard Chen Predicts General Elections July Timeline

The Covid19 Multi-Ministry Taskforce announced last evening that Singapore will enter Phase 2 of its reopening on 19 June. This decision was based on the Taskforce's view that Covid19 is "under control". With Phase 2, Singaporeans can expect most activities to resume but with safety measures in place. While many Singaporeans began rejoicing this Phase 2 announcement, The Workers' Party politican Bernard Chen Jiaxi eyed the Taskforce's decision more critically. Bernard Chen wrote in a Facebook post that Phase 2 was "nicely choreographed with the election in mind". He provided a suspected timeline for PAP to called for Parliament's dissolution.
