SBS DRIVER OFFERS JAPAN STANDARD OF SERVICE: ANNOUNCES STOPS & GREETS PASSENGERS

I boarded Mr William Goh's SBS bus service 9 (SBS6785E) and just as I was about to plug my music in, I heard the bus captain exclaim, "next station, Tanah Merah Station!", and subsequently for other bus stops as well. He also greeted passengers boarding and disembarking. In our society, saying hello to a stranger is uncommon what more a compliment. So on behalf of my fellow citizens I went up to him and praised him for his outstanding act. It is important to recognise and appreciate such positive attitudes if we want to improve Singapore's service industry and retain talents like Mr William Goh, especially in a culture like Singapore, where our service industry differentiates greatly from service superiors such as Japan.

VINCENT WIJEYSINGHA: WHY CATHOLIC CHURCH SO SERIOUS?

I must disagree with you that the Professional Standards Office takes such matters seriously. One of the principal ways the Catholic church abuses the trust of children is by the homophobia it propagates. Archbishop Goh’s three Pastoral Letters on the subject of homosexuality in February, June, and July confirm the church’s destructive attitude. Had the Catholic church truly intended to propagate a message of love and compassion, the Archbishop would have restrained himself from associating the church with the hateful propaganda publicised by Laurence Khong and Noor Derros in response to Pink Dot. Rather, he made common cause with them. I am sorry to have to say, therefore, I have no confidence in church agencies.

YAHOO NEWS USED UNDERHANDED & UNSCRUPULOUS TACTICS TO ATTACK THE CHURCH

Leave it to the secular mass media to employ all manner of underhanded, unscrupulous tactics to try to drag even what is holy and good through the mud. Yahoo News has seized upon just one standalone line in the pastoral letter to create a sensationalist headline, which as we speak has already been celebrated by those seeking to attack the Church at every opportunity as 'evidence' of the Church's supposed admission of error in its teachings on this subject.

ARCHBISHOP WILLIAM GOH: GAYS CAN BE IN A RELATIONSHIP BUT THEY CANNOT HAVE SEX

The Church does not disapprove of a loving relationship between same-sex individuals that is chaste and faithful but a sexual relationship between same-sex individuals as it is not in accordance with the divine plan of God. Same-sex inclination in itself is not a sin but as love often seeks to express itself physically, the challenge to be chaste and faithful to the divine plan of God is ever present. I apologize if my initial statement conveyed insensitivity as from your feedback, I have come to realize that there is much variation in thought and lifestyle within this community.

GAY CATHOLIC: I AM ACCEPTED BY MY CHURCH

To all the bigots who used the bible as an instruction booklet for hating and discriminating us, shame on you. Your actions are akin to forging your parents signature to get what you want but can't. Stop yourselves from the greatest sin of all, stop hating god's creation and telling his children what is wrong or right; God is the judge, we have no rights.

GAY SINGAPOREAN: ARCHBISHOP WILLIAM GOH IS A HYPOCRITE

The archbishop is already contradicting himself and discriminating against LGBT Singaporeans when he states that, "This kind of lifestyle should not be promoted by Catholics as it is destructive to society and contrary to Christian values, which are life-giving and fruitful. He is being hypocritical when he does nothing to decry adultery, premarital sex and having sex with a menstruating woman.

ARCHBISHOP’S MESSAGE: RE-STATEMENT OF THE CHURCH’S POSITION ON THE FAMILY

However, the Church also believes that when God created man (and woman), He had intended for them to "Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it". (Genesis 1:28) For this reason, although the Church treats each individual, regardless of his/her sexual orientation, with sensitivity and respect for his/her dignity, she upholds the view that LGBT sexual relationships are not in accordance with the plan of God. This kind of lifestyle should not be promoted by Catholics as it is detrimental to society, is not helpful to integral human development and contrary to Christian values.

Catholic Church may set up support groups for those “struggling with same sex attraction”

The Catholic Archbishop William Goh has reassured believers of the Church's position that family - comprising heterosexual couples with children - remains the "indispensable, basic building block of society". But he is also exploring the setting up of support groups for those "struggling with same sex attraction", which would also help their loved ones who have difficulty accepting them. In a statement on Monday, the Archbishop explained that the Church's non-public engagement of opposing groups on the issue of the Health Promotion Board's (HPB) controversial Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on sexuality is by no means evidence of its "flight" from its "Christian calling to speak the truth and defend the cause of the family", he said.

CATHOLIC CHURCH: WE WILL CONTINUE TO UPHOLD FAMILY VALUES

Addressing followers yesterday, Father Goh wrote: “I want to assure you that our non-public engagement of the opposing groups on this issue is by no means evidence of our flight from our Christian calling to speak the truth and to defend the cause of the family and hence, of society and the future of humanity.”
