MAN FRACTURES COLLARBONE AFTER CYCLING INTO METAL ROD AT WEST COAST HIGHWAY

A cyclist fractured his collarbone after his bicycle ran into a metal rod lying along the West Coast Highway. He was part of a cycling group that was going at around 40km/h when he hit the debris, causing his wheels to lock before he was sent flipping and crashing with bone injuries. He could get up and walk but had to undergo surgery. His $10,000 bicycle was totally destroyed just because of one metal bar, which may have been left behind by one of the heavy vehicles that frequent the highway. Risky siol. CAN THE TRAFFIC POLICE DO SOMETHING ABT CYCLISTS & E-BIKERS AT WEST COAST HIGHWAY

I drive along West Coast Highway 6 days a week. As this highway is occupied by many big trailers and lorries, I worry about numerous cyclists who cycle along this highway everyday, often in groups. My questions to the authorities: 1) Why are the authorities and traffic police turning a blind eye to these cyclists? I thought it's a regulation that cyclists are banned from cycling on expressways. At times, they even come in hugh groups occupying one whole lane, especially on weekends.
