NGO PETITIONS PAP GOVT TO WAIVE UNPAID UTILITY BILLS FOR SENIORS LIVING IN RENTAL FLATS

Recently our group, Happy People Helping People Foundation did a survey to find out more about the problems our senior citizens living in rented HDB flats are facing and we found out that many of them are having difficulty paying their bills. There are many among them who are using the PAYU (Pay-As-You-Use) System in their homes because they are not able to fulfill their monthly commitment of paying bills. There are also many that owes Singapore Powers a great sum for not paying their bills for months. We hope that our government may consider, waiving electricity charges for our senior citizens especially those who are staying in rented flats because many of them are no long working.

NON-PROFIT GROUP PETITIONS MSF TO WAIVE POWER BILLS FOR ELDERLY, DON'T LEAVE THEM IN THE DARK!

A non-profit Happy People Helping People Foundation started a petition to ask the Ministry of Social and Family Development to waive electricity charges for elderly residents in rental flats.

It found out through a survey that many senior citizens have difficulties paying their bills, with some owing money for months. They are unable to pay as they are no longer working or do not earn enough to begin with.

Some tried asked for help but were never given immediate solutions.

The foundation thus asked for MSF to consider their plight and waive electricity charges. It thinks it is unfair to deprive old people of basic needs like lighting because living in the dark will only make them more prone to accidents.

What do you think? To waive or not to waive?
