SOS NEEDS MORE VOLUNTEERS TO HELP MAN SUICIDE PHONE LINES

And if more calls are going unanswered, this would mean that more suicidal people are not getting the help they required, which puts them more at risk of suicide. However, the SOS had stated that there is a significant dip in the number of calls for help, from 35,832 calls that were taken last year, compared to 39,310 in 2012. it was not made known why the numbers compared are between 2016 and 2012. A total of 429 people took their lives last year, up slightly from 409 in 2015, 415 in 2014, and 422 in 2013.

Gerald Giam from the Workers Party (WP) spotted this door pamphlet during his rounds in his ward and decided to show just what kind of tricks the WP has to deal with from the incumbent People's Action Party (PAP). According to the pamphlet, the PAP is looking for Residents Committee volunteers and openly advertised some major benefits for those who do join. They include priority queue for Ministry of Education primary school registration exercises, Ministry of National Development Grassroots Organization Scheme, HDB Special Parking Label and free education courses.

RELIEF SINGAPORE: LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO JOIN ACEH MISSION

RSG is responding to the recent Aceh earthquake. We are putting together a team to head there from Dec 23-27 to assist with DEBRIS REMOVAL, CLEAN WATER and MEDICAL AID. Elderly cardboard collectors are not "poor" or in poverty - or at least that's what Minister for Social and Family Development (MSF) Tan Chuan Jin would have you believe. In a Facebook post yesterday, Tan said that he had received a report from ministry volunteers who had gone out to interview the elderly cardboard collectors in the Jalan Besar area in a bid to understand what motivates them. What they found "surprised" him and his volunteers.

SEA GAMES ORGANIZERS DENY OVERSELLING TICKETS, BLAMES LARGE CROWDS FOR FIASCO

In an apology issued on its Facebook page, the SEA Games Organising Committee (SINGSOC) has denied overselling the tickets for the SEA Games closing ceremony, and blamed the sudden build up in the crowds in a short period of time, which caused the organizers to restrict entry into the stadium for safety purposes. SINGSOC claimed that after accounting for all the guests at the venue, there was still sufficient seats in the stadium for all those who came for the event. This is despite reports from eye witnesses, who said that volunteer ushers had no choice but to turn away guests from the National Stadium because all the seats were full. Many guests also reported having to wait more than an hour for entry, with some leaving before they could enter the venue because the situation was too chaotic.

ANGRY CROWDS ABUSED SEA GAMES VOLUNTEERS AT CLOSING CEREMONY

Hundreds of spectators were locked out of the SEA Games closing ceremony on Tuesday, despite having valid tickets for entry. This fiasco resulted after organizers for the event oversold tickets and ended up with more spectators than the National Stadium could accommodate, In the midst of the chaos on Tuesday, eye witnesses reported ugly incidents where frustrated spectators abused volunteers and security staff at the venue.
