GOVT BUILT BUKIT PANJANG LRT DESPITE OBVIOUS FLAWS

This was in response to the question posed by WP MP Pritam Singh, on whether the Bukit Panjang LRT was an “afterthought” built under “political pressure”. The term was used by Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan last month, who had also taken aim at the LRT's "twists and turns' design. Mr Ng also further blamed the design flaw as being adapted from an airport system to a housing estate, and said that “It was a ‘straight-line’ design which had to be adapted to undulating terrain and sharp turns."

TRANSPORT FARE MAY GO UP, SURPRISED?

Oh dear! Here we go again. Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan raised the possibility of transport fares rising again in Parliament. Of course, he masked the important statement about TRANSPORT COST RISING, by saying that it is not sustainable for taxpayers to increasingly subsidise the cost of operating Singapore's public transport systems. Try to make it look nice by saying taxpayers money should not be used to pay to sustain transport costs, but at the same time increase the actual transport cost, so we really pay for it. Water cost up, transport fares also up. Was, this year Parliament is all about increasing prices. Are they trying to make us all pay the price fro not voting them? That's why the 30% water fee increase?

MINISTERS LOSING TOUCH, EQUATES BEING INSENSITIVE WITH BEING CREATIVE

But, what do you call a communication Minister who cannot communicate? A transport minister who cannot make transportation move smoothly, if at all, but always ready with comments and reprimands. We really do not need a government to remind us and teach us or reprimand us at every turn. We will do that ourselves. You sat sorry for the pain and hurt caused by the name Syonan? And getting endorsed by the big man some more just a few days ago!

MINISTER KHAW CELEBRATES 100 DAYS WITHOUT MAJOR MRT FAULTS

Yesterday, the North-South Line (NSL) achieved 100 days without any major incident! It joined Downtown Line, which has passed the 178–days’ mark and is working towards its 200-day milestone next month! For us in the rail industry, clearing 100 disruption-free days is no mean feat: it requires everyone to do everything right. Any misstep can cause a disruption.

NEL BREAKDOWN: TRANSPORT MINISTER KHAW ACT BLUR LIVE LONGER?

At 8am this morning our North East Line (NEL) suffered a system wide breakdown because of a track fault. Trains were halted from Farrer Park to Hougang MRT. At some of the NEL stations, blackouts happened and commuters waited for the resumption of train services in the dark. But our new Transport Minister seems to be in the dark as well. Despite the inconvenience caused by this morning's disruption, Minister Khaw has not come out to address or acknowledge the breakdown. Either Minister Khaw is oblivious to the breakdown or he is trying to act blur live longer and pretend the breakdown didn't happen this morning.

ALL PAP MP TOO FRIGHTENED TO VOLUNTEER FOR TRANSPORT MINISTER?

None of the PAP MPs volunteered for the Transport Minister profile, not even Khaw Boon Wan. This reflects very badly on the PAP and it appears the Education Ministry is an "easy" portfolio given that all new MPs are posted there. Singapore cannot progress with leaders who do not want to roll up their sleeves and prove their capabilities but only want to do the easy work.

KHAW BOON WAN: S’POREANS HAVE TO BE REALISTIC ABOUT MRT BREAKDOWNS

Mr Khaw will become the fourth minister to helm the transport ministry since 2006 and added that he will be sharing his ideas in the coming months. He did call for the public to be realistic about Singapore's MRT system and cited Hong Kong's MTR as a benchmark. Even MTR which was touted as the best rail operator had twelve major disruptions in 2014.
