SDP: GOVT HANDLING OF HEP C OUTBREAK SECRETIVE & NON-TRANSPARENT

The SDP sends our condolences to the bereaved families of those who died from the recent Hepatitis C outbreak at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) as well as to those who are infected by this serious viral infection. What is disturbing, however, is the non-transparent manner in which the incident was handled by the Government. Information about the outbreak apparently first emerged between April 17 and May 14 this year when the first five cases of the hepatitis C infections were reported by the SGH to the Ministry of Health (MOH).

HAS THE GOVT BEEN TRULY TRANSPARENT & OPEN OVER ALL MATTERS?

According to the Straits Times news report ”GE2015: PM Lee launches PAP slogan ‘with you, for you, for Singapore’, and manifesto” (Aug 29) – “Mr Chong, 62, took aim at opposition parties for being evasive. By contrast, the PAP has been transparent, open, and “where we have fallen short, we have taken decisive action to right our wrongs”, he said.” Since we are talking about “has been transparent, open” – why can’t the Government be transparent and open about the following:

PAP MP LEE BEE WAH: ALTERNATIVE MEDIA TRYING TO SMEAR ME WITH FALSEHOODS

There is an article, full of falsehoods, which has been circulating about LBW Consultants LLP (LBW). It is an old article, which Mr Alex Tan (who stood as a candidate in 2011 GE) has been trying to recirculate. The article suggests, falsely, some impropriety in the awarding of the HDB contract to LBW for Khatib Court. The tender was carried out fairly and transparently. To suggest otherwise is malicious.
