I was on the North East MRT line headed towards Sengkang and was playing games on my mobile. I noticed this primary school boy board the MRT from Serangoon station and once he sat down on the floor, he took out his phone and was glued to it. Soon I realised that the boy was browsing and watching porn videos on his handphone! He was oblivious to others around him and concentrated on watching the porn. I wanted to stop him but I reached my stop and had to get off.

Tama the stationmaster was a well known sight to visitors at the Kishi railway station in Western Japan. Hired in 2007, she was appointed as stationmaster in 2007 and received her very own stationmaster's uniform - a cap and a jacket. Sitting quietly at the gates to Kishi railway station, she would greet and see off passengers to the station diligently everyday like most stationmasters would. But Tama was no ordinary stationmaster - she was a cat. Her "service" to Kishi railway station soon became world famous.

SMRT CEO: MRT TRAIN BREAKDOWN WITHDRAWAL RATE IS LOWEST IN 7 YEARS

In a recent interview with ST, SMRT CEO LG (NS) Desmond Kuek told the media that SMRT’s train withdrawal rate has come down from 3.3 for every 100,000km operated in 2012 to 1.05 last year after he came on board on 1 Oct 2012, taking over from Saw Phaik Hwa. Train withdrawal rate is where a train is withdrawn from service because of faults.

2 GERMANS CHARGED WITH SMRT TRAIN VANDALISM

Two German men were charged this morning (Nov 22) with trespassing and vandalism at SMRT Bishan Depot earlier this month. Andreas Von Knorre and Elton Hinz, both 21, appeared before the State Courts and had their charges read in German through an interpreter. The Court heard that both men had on Nov 8, at about 2.48am, entered the Bishan SMRT Depot at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 without authorisation and vandalised the left exterior cabin of an SMRT train using indelible spray paint.
