TRAIN ENTHUSIAST: NEW SMRT TRAINS MAY SOLVE DELAYS & BREAKDOWNS

I'm one of the lucky ones to have a chance to take SMRT's new trains a few days ago. I'm excited to see the new features and happy that many ppl will be able to enjoy it! Who knows, this new system can maybe put a stop to all this faults! There's a new signalling system so hopefully it will prevent circuit faults and train breakdowns. I know many ppl always complain about the regular delays but I'm sure the new trains can be a solution. They really look improved.. three's new LCD display boards to show ppl what are the attractions near diff mrt stations and other safety related messages. Plus they also have energy efficient LED lighting that is better for the environment. I also take public transport and understand the frustration ppl face with train breakdowns.. but I hope we can all can be patient as it's not an easy thing to solve. Maybe we can look forward to the new trains for a start!

TRAIN STALLED AT NORTH-SOUTH LINE, 4 BREAKDOWNS IN 1 WEEK

There has been another delay in the MRT line, this time affecting the North-South line, delaying train services between Yishun to Bishan. The disruption occurred during lunch time today, and commuters were advised that their trips would take about 30 minutes longer. It was understood that a train had stalled due to loss of power, thus had to be towed back by another train. While the disruption had been cleared by 12:40 pm, it brings to questions again why trains are breaking down regularly one more time. On Thursday, a train had stalled at Tanah Merah, while last Tuesday saw two incidents, a signalling fault incident at the North-South line, and a train breaking down at the Bukit Panjang LRT line.

WP MEMBER: FREE RIDES FOR COMMUTERS UNTIL SMRT GETS THEIR ACT TOGETHER

Until our transport companies and the Ministry get their act together, Singaporeans should be granted free travel on our entire transport network. #justsaying #notsocrazyanidea. #onlyfair. Why should consumers made to pay for a system that is so unreliable and inefficient? I pay a fare to get from point A to point B, not to be stuck on the platform, or in between stations. If the service is not rendered, only fair that consumers need not pay. And why must I pay for your provision of "free bus services" whenever the trains don't run. #mightaswelldontbuildraillines.

SDP: TRAINS OVERLOADED SO WHY ARE WE PUSHING FOR BIGGER POPULATION?

Responding to last night's major disruption of MRT services, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew admitted that things are not going well for the SMRT. The Minister also said that the SMRT did not know what caused the massive breakdown. Given such a scenario, shouldn't the Government re-examine its policy of bringing in even more foreigners into the country to live and work?
