SINGAPOREAN MAN IN PHILIPPINES SINCE 1990S IMPLICATED IN TERROR ACTIVITIES

The Ministry of Home Affairs has reacted to the Philippine's Military statement today that stated Singaporeans are also involved in the IS led insurgency in the Philippines. MHA confirmed on Friday that a Singaporean man who has been in south Philippines since the 1990s has been implicated in terrorism activities there,

The man was named as Muhamad Ali s/o Abdul Rahiman @ Muawiya. However, MHA indicated that there is no confirmed reports that this man is involved in the ongoing armed insurgency in Marawi on Mindanao island. MHA also reiterated that they will work with the Philippines authorities closely to identify any Singaporean who may be involved in terrorism-related activities in the Philippines. the MHA takes a serious view of anyone who supports, promotes, undertakes or makes preparations to undertake armed violence regardless of where the violence takes place, the statement continues.

POLICE SHOULD LOOK INTO HDB CAR PARK EXPLOSION AS POSSIBLE TERRORIST INCIDENT

When I read the news just a short while ago about a car explosion in a HDB carpark, my heart sank and I was almost convinced it was a terrorist attack. Although the Straits Times says the case is probably just a case of motor vehicle fire, there are many questionable details that make me wonder if it is really so simple as that.

WHITE SUBSTANCE AT WOODLEIGH MRT TESTED, TURNS OUT TO BE FLOUR

The white, suspicious substance found at the Woodleigh MRT station has been tested. Reporters understand that testers believe the substance to be baking flour. Woodleigh MRT had been closed since this afternoon after a report was lodged over a white powdery substance found on the premises.

GRASSROOTS LEADERS TO BE EQUIPPED TO DEAL WITH PSYCHOLOGICAL THREATS

Now we have moved on to formal psychological training to combat terrorism! Getting more and more sophisticated. PM Lee said that grassroots leaders will take the lead and receive formal training from mental health professionals to help residents respond and deal with the psychological effects of a terror attack.

Last time, when you of any kind of training to help save lives, it was all about the physical aspect. Now, we have gone one notch higher, being trained in the mental aspect as well. Training and equipping oneself against any kinds of terrorist attack is always good.

HK TERRORIST THROWS MOLOTOV COCKTAIL IN PACKED MTR, BURNS HIMSELF & OTHERS

At least 15 people were burned or injured by a man who lobbed a molotov cocktail in a packed MTR train at Tsim Sha Tsui station this evening, Hong Kong papers reported. A raging fire broke out in the front carriage of the MTR where the cocktail exploded, leaving 2 in critical condition and 6 others in serious condition.

INDON MAID WHO WORKED IN S'PORE ARRESTED FOR JARKATA SUICIDE BOMB PLOT

The 27 year old Indonesian woman Dian Yulia Novi who was arrested for planning to mount a suicide bomb attack in Jarkarta worked as a maid in Singapore in 2014. She shared on local Indonesian TV that she was radicalised throught Facebook while working as a maid in Singapore. She would open the Facebook profiles of jihadists and collected articles or videos of extreme teachings from the internet. Dian was one of the culprits nabbed for plotting to suicide bomb the Jarkarta Presidential Palace with a 3 kg high grade rice cooker bomb.

Despite their arrests, this most recent plot shows how important our efforts are and why we must continue to protect our island. We should assume that there may be more plots, other terror cells on the lookout for ways, and new munitions to penetrate our defences. Terrorism is a global problem and no country is immune.

MFA: S'POREANS ADVISED TO TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTION WHEN VISITING THAILAND

There were a number of incidents in Thailand in 2015. On 1 February 2015, two small improvised explosive devices exploded at the Siam station of Bangkok’s Skytrain System, in close proximity to Siam Paragon shopping mall. On 7 March 2015, a grenade exploded outside the Bangkok Criminal Court in Chatuchak district. Singaporeans travelling to or residing in Thailand should exercise vigilance. They should keep themselves updated on the latest developments through Thai news outlets and heed the instructions of the local Thai authorities.
