For those taxi drivers who are not adaptable to changes, my advice to you is to change a job. The world is changing, so is Singapore. Instead of investing your time and resources to try to adapt, most of you guys are better at complaining and making your life so negative.

Most of the taxi drivers say that this is an "archaic" rule, and it counters the Government trumpet-blowing of urging citizens to embrace disruptive technology and the gig economy. Drivers should not be denied a means to earn extra income, as already the market for the drivers are very tight and they can barely make a living just by picking up passengers.

I am a taxi driver and would like to share that I have got mixed feelings about taxis companies going towards surge pricing just like uber and grab. I have driven uber for 6 months before joining back as a taxi driver and would like to share that the surge pricing aka fixed price is very one sided, especially during peak hours, it's only benefitting together passengers and not drivers.

LTA should either ban or restrict to two hitched rides that both passengers and drivers can take per day. Reason being, Grabhitch and RYDE are rode hitching apps where people can hitch onto a driver's car along the way but this flaw has caused drivers to accept unlimited hitched jobs per day.

Gain City had just announced that as a gesture of goodwill during this period of CNY celebrations, they will give hampers to about 100 taxi drivers each day to show the appreciation to the taxi drivers for working through the holiday weekend. The hamper consists of free lunch, a pack of rice, and oranges, and the taxi drivers can claim these hampers at Gain City's HQ at Sungei Kadut, This offer will be ongoing till the 3 February.

Is this how taxi drivers should behave? If they are not happy working as a cabbie then don't work as one, there are many optimistic cabbies out there earning a hard living sacrificing their reunion dinner and Chinese New Year holidays. By making such lewd comments by waiting for calls and choosing passengers as a form of punishment because passengers choose uber and grab, you are not only causing hatred from the passengers and the uber and grab drivers, but also those good taxi drivers out there too.

As a passenger, I am seriously peeved by what this taxi driver said, he claimed that it's a retribution for passengers during rainy weather when uber and grab prices surge hinting that we have to be punished for not supporting taxis.

We read more and more news on taxi drivers and bus drivers getting physical and verbal abuse from their passengers. Some people might say the cases are now more in the spotlight, because everyone has a camera in their pockets, so anytime got a fight somewhere, can just easily shot and upload later. However, in a ChannelNewsAsia interview, cab drivers and bus captains confirmed that verbal abuse against them are on the rise. Why is this so? These cabbies and bus captains work hard to earn their money, sometimes waking up before dawn and driving all the way until the sun sets, yet, they are subjected to such vile verbal abuse.
