EVEN EX-PAP MP TAN CHENG BOCK WAS DENIED TICKETS TO SG50 NDP PARADE

On that day, we rejoiced in our nation’s birth, as well as what it has achieved over 50 years since Independence. It is bad enough that many citizens were denied TICKETS to the “LIVE NATIONAL DAY PARADE CELEBRATIONS”. Even former MP Tan Cheng Bock, who was instrumental in fostering racial unity, as well as always being humble, honest and upright in his dealings with all Singaporeans, was denied access to tickets to the National Day Parade.

TAN CHENG BOCK: LKY THE GREATEST PERSON I HAVE WORKED WITH

I first met face to face with Lee Kuan Yew when he interviewed me to be a candidate for the 1980 GE. It was very intimidating. Greats like Toh Chin Chye, Goh Keng Swee , and S Rajaratnam were present. They asked many questions. I fumbled some of the answers. I left the interview suspecting he was not impressed with me. Moreover, my academic records and CV were colourless. I was only a village doctor with a rebellious streak. But one striking thing he said was “We are not looking for yes men.”

TAN CHENG BOCK: HOW WILL THE GOVT MAKE THE COLUMBARIUM U-TURN LOOK STRAIGHT

How to correct this error? Can the tender already awarded, be withdrawn? It would reflect badly on our tender system if the government do this. It showed lack of due diligence. Singaporeans are watching how the Ministry is going to make a U turn look STRAIGHT. All the best.

GOH CHOK TONG: DR TAN CHENG BOCK IS MY VERY CLOSE FRIEND

I only allowed three visitors apart from members of my immediate family. Rest is the best way to make a speedy and smooth recovery. I saw Ng Hock Lye because he had just received two stents for his arteries a few days ago. I was concerned about him. He came with Danny Ng. Both are patrons of Marine Parade GROs. I also had an almost hour-long chat with Tan Cheng Bock, my very close friend from school. We talked about mutual friends, health issues and families. Thanks, Bock. I am glad to see you in good health and keeping yourself busy.

Tan Cheng Bock: CPF saga shows that Singaporeans have a lack of trust in the Government

The current heated discussion on CPF boils down to a question of a lack of public trust. Most Singaporeans have high expectations of realising some cash after their retirement. Changes made to the CPF and the constant reminder that they may not have enough disposable income when they grow old, created a sense of insecurity. This is backed by the fact that only half of active CPF account holders have enough to meet the minimum sum requirement. To add to the anxiety, the minimum sum was increased recently resulting in less disposable money for their retirement.

Honouring our PIONEER GENERATION with $8 Billion Fund

Today Singapore has transformed into a first world city. The change was too fast for many. So this pioneer generation now faces a new challenge. Their simple lifestyle cannot meet the demands of the new world. With little education they accepted not high paying jobs. They do not have much in their CPF and many have no CPF. They toiled very hard so their children would have a better life. Now age has caught up with them. Today many are struck down with multiple health problems. They used to pay less than $5 dollars for an OPD visit but now it is different. Health bills have jumped many folds. Also some were resettled away from their children so they stay alone. I hope with this backdrop younger Singaporeans will have a better appreciation of what the pioneer generation went through. This move to help this generation is timely and I support this very fine gesture.
