SYLVIA LIM: WP IS READY TO TAKE ON ANOTHER TOWN COUNCIL

While refuting the Ministry of National Development's (MND) assertion about AHPETC hugely overpaying the town council's managing agent FMSS, Workers' Party (WP) chairman Sylvia Lim say that they have emerge stronger from this episode and ready to take on another town council. During the wide-ranging interview at her Toh Tuck Road apartment, Ms Lim defended her town council's performance, and its decision not to dig into the books of its managing agent, FM Solutions and Services (FMSS). "I do not think that we have let the voters down," she said. "The town council has done more than enough to account for whatever lapses that the Auditor-General's Office (AGO) has pointed out."

Chairman of the Workers Party Sylvia Lim announced on Sunday that its Aljunied GRC team will remain intact to defend its territory. The Aljunied GRC dream team comprises of Low Thia Khiang, Chen Show Mao, Muhamad Faisal Manap, Sylvia Lim and Pritam Singh. Do not be fooled by this desperate playing of the “victim card”. The record shows that AHPETC trade fairs have hurt shopkeepers due to high frequency and long duration. Instead, Ms Lim revealed AHPETC’s true motive when she said, “The town council has also lost a source of revenue to manage its operations.” It is very clear. AHPETC’s trade fairs are about money. It has little to do with benefiting residents and businesses in the area.

TOWN COUNCIL ABOVE BOARD: SYLVIA LIM

The trial before District Judge Victor Yeo, which started on Tuesday, will decide if AHPETC had flouted the law in holding the event without a permit. The town council claims it was a "community event" or a "mini-fair". It disputes NEA's assertions that it was a "trade fair" or a "temporary fair" and hence, required a permit under Section 35 of the Environmental Public Health Act. This law states that a permit is required for "any temporary fair, stage show or other such function or activity".
