MINDEF CONSIDERING NS DEFERMENT FOR NATIONAL SWIMMER QUAH ZHENG WEN

"High level talks" are underway between the Singapore Swimming Association and the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) over a possible National Service (NS) deferment for one of Singapore's national swimmers, 18 year-old Quah Zheng Wen. Quah had improved his Olympic "A" time for the 200m butterfly in the recent SEA Games, coming in at 1min 56.79secs. This earns him an automatic qualification for the upcoming Olympics to be held in Brazil.

MALAYSIA TO REVIEW SPORTS ATTIRE FOR NATIONAL ATHLETES AFTER GYMNAST INCIDENT

Malaysian minister in charge of Islamic affairs Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom says the federal government will conduct an in-depth study on Islamic compliance for clothing used for sports and other fields, citing criticism over the attire worn by 21 year-old Malaysian gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi at the SEA Games in Singapore. Farah had won the gold for Malaysia in the floor exercise routine in artistic gymnastics. However, her win was marred by a flood of complaints from Muslims in Malaysia about her gymnast attire, which they say showed off her aurat and revealed the shape of her vagina.

PHILIPPINES VOLLEYBALL COACH DEMANDS GENDER TEST FOR INDONESIAN PLAYER

The Philippines SEA Games volleyball coach Roger Gorayeb has demanded that SEA Games organizers perform a gender test on Indonesian women's volleyball player Aprilia Santini Manganang. She was singled out because of her appearance and powerful physique. The Philippines SEA Games delegation representative has confirmed its request, but said that she does not expect the test to be carried out before the game against Indonesia in Singapore, which will take place on Wednesday. 23 year-old Manganang is expected to play Wednesday's Pool B opener against the Philippines.

I guess majority of Singaporean dun really care about such events. Sengkang Swimming Complex and Sengkang Floating Wetland

This complex is great. Eight waterslides – I mean how can the little munchkins not be happy with that? I’ll tell you how – for six of the big slides, you have to be five years old AND 1.2 meters tall. Both of my lads did not fit the requirements, and surprisingly, took it in their stride. I really did expect a fight, but they were very cool – phew. They would have loved it though. So be prepared if you go there with little kids.
