HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANISATION: DON’T PUT BARRICADES AT PINK DOT, YOU ARE SUPPRESSING ACTIVISM

Amnesty International, which campaigns for human rights, published a statement on Singapore's restrictions to this year's Pink Dot. It asked the authorities to revoke the idea of putting barricades at the Speaker's Corner and claims it is an attempt to suppress activism. "Amnesty International calls on the Singaporean authorities to respect and protect the right to peaceful assembly and ensure that they work to facilitate peaceful demonstrations instead of creating more restrictions to silence communities, or their critics." BARRICADES & IDENTITY CARD CHECKS FOR UPCOMING PINK DOT 2017

Event organizers have announced shockingly draconian security checks for this upcoming Pink Dot SG event, planned for 1 July this year. The measures, which include barricading the open area of the Speakers' Corner and having identity cards or passport checks for participants before they enter the area, were decisions made necessary because of the authorities, the organizers said.
