S’PORE POWER EARNS $1.5 BILLION PROFITS IN 2015 BUT ELECTRIC TARIFFS STILL INCREASE?

“From July 1 to Sep 30, “electricity tariffs will increase by an average of 9.2 per cent or 1.59 cents per kWh compared to the previous quarter” According to the annual reports of Singapore Power and Singapore PowerAssets for 2014/2015 – their combined profits for the year was $1.5893 billion. This is an increase of $197.2 million or 14.2 per cent over 2013/2014’s combined profits of $1.3921 billion. Is there something not very right with our electricity system, which may make Singaporeans pay one of the highest charges for electricity in the world, after adjusting for purchasing power parity and relative wages?

ELECTRICITY BILL TO FALL AFTER 18.4% DROP IN NATURAL GAS PRICE

After its quarterly electricity tariffs review, SP Services announced on 1 October 2015 (Thursday) that electricity tariffs will fall by an average of 9.3 per cent for the next quarter of the year. The tariff will decrease by 2.06 cent per kWh for Oct 1 to Dec 31. In real terms, the average electricity bill for families living in 4-room flats will fall by $8.78.

CHAOS IN BUKIT BATOK AS POWER OUTAGE AFFECTS HOMES, TRAFFIC & SCHOOLS

23 blocks in Bukit Batok were affected for about 2 hours during morning rush hour after a power outage took down electricity for homes, schools and even traffic lights in the area near Bukit Batok West Avenue 8. GOOD NEWS – ELECTRICITY BILLS TO DECREASE IN 2015!

Electricity tariffs will decrease by an average of 8 per cent, or 1.99 cents per kWh for the period of 1 January to 31 March 2015, as compared to the previous quarter. The electricity tariff for households will decrease from 25.28 to 23.29 cents per kWh, meaning the average monthly electricity bill for families living in four-room HDB flats will decrease by S$7.93.
