SPF: OPERATIONAL TRIALS OF THE RAPID DEPLOYMENT TROOPS FROM POLICE SOC

The formation of the Rapid Deployment Troops (RDTs), under the Special Operations Command, was announced by the Minister for Home Affairs, Mr K Shanmugam, at the Singapore Police Force (SPF) Workplan Seminar in April 2016. This is a key prong of the concerted effort by the SPF to enhance its operational capabilities to deal with public security and public order incidents. The RDTs will serve as the Home Team’s second wave of response, in support of the first wave of response by Police’s Emergency Response Teams and Land Division officers, to a terrorist-related incident in Singapore. The RDTs will make use of Tactical Response Motorcycles (TRMs) to rapidly manoeuvre through traffic and reach incident sites quickly.

POLICE SCREENED US COZ WE GOT TATTOOS. THEN SAY WE ARE “A WASTE OF TIME”

Earlier in the afternoon at around 3.21 pm, me and my Friend Admus was walking back from Fu Lu Shou towards Sim Lim where he parked his car. His Wife accompanied by his 10 months old baby was waiting for us near the traffic light when 2 uniformed policemen called for us from behind and beckoned us to stop. They wanted to do a screening on us. Out of everyone in that busy street they chose to only stop us and if I assume, it must be because we are tattooed and that they are being biased and stereotypical. When they approached us asking for our identity cards, I asked my Friend, " why screen is when there are so many others on this street?"

CAN OFFICERS WHO DO NOT BRING THEIR WARRANT CARD BE PART OF AN OPERATION?

According to a post published on the SPF's FB page, all police officers are required to produce a warrant card before a member of the public complies with the instructions of the person claiming to be a police officer. However in this video of the search of Teo Sor Lung's house, you can clearly see two so-called officers, no only not produce said warrant, but one can even claim to leave her card in the car. I was a director for one and a half season of the TV series "Making the Cops Look Good" or better known as "Crime Watch" in the early 2000s. And one of the SOPs the police always have to ensure that is portrayed properly, is the visible presence of the warrant card. So if the cops themselves do not respect their own SOPs why should anyone respect them? AND suppose the two persons without ID are in fact not from the SPF but the ISD or Elections Department, shouldn't the SPF explain why someone who isn't a cop is allowed to claim as one?
