Prominent social activist and blogger Ravi Philemon will contest Hong Kah North Single Member Constituency (SMC) under the Singapore People's Party (SPP) banner in the upcoming General Elections. He will face off against the PAP's incumbent MP Dr Amy Khor.

People's Action Party member of parliament (MP) Sitoh Yih Pin announced today that he would be standing again in the Potong Pasir Single Member Constituency (SMC) in the upcoming General Elections. 51 year-old Mr Sitoh has been the MP of Potong Pasir since he won against the Singapore People's Party’s (SPP) Lina Chiam in the 2011 General Election by just 114 votes. It was his third attempt contesting the seat, having staged unsuccessful election campaigns there in 2001 and 2006.

Singapore Peoples' Party (SPP) has put up a call for volunteers. SPP's Jeanette Chong-Aruldoss, the candidate for Mountbatten SMC, needs volunteers for the upcoming campaign. I am a resident of The Peak at Toa Payoh. At first, I did not want to write this very personal and damaging article. But seeing the high handed methods of the RC and their insistence on serving their own interests before the residents, I knew that I had to expose them.

My wife and I are saddened to learn about the passing of your father, the first Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. He was a great statesman, parliamentarian and a master of public policy. He was there at the time when Singapore was swarmed with numerous problems, ranging from domestic to international issues. He was there, just as Britain needed Winston Churchill during World War II – always taking a strategic and long term view of Singapore.

In the UK for example, manufacturing firms offer apprenticeship programmes allowing non-graduates to become highly-paid specialists. Wage is the most important consideration. PM Lee gave a few examples of non-graduates who succeeded in their careers. But a​re their wages as high as their university peers who are already in management-level positions? We believe a better way would be to track the quality of non-management jobs created by economic agencies.

It was supposed to be a Christmas walkabout for the Singapore People’s Party (SPP) in Potong Pasir and Bishan last Sunday (Dec 22) morning. Within hours, however, when SPP’s secretary-general Chiam See Tong and Non-Constituency Member of Parliament Lina Chiam showed up, the trip had become a mini Meet-the-People’s session on the go. In Potong Pasir, residents immediately came up to give the Chiams their well-wishes before they started complaining about their current Member of Parliament (MP), Sitoh Yih Pin. Some even took the chance to share with the Chiams issues they faced ever since Sitoh took over the reins.
