SINGAPORE ARMED FORCES FINALLY ACCEPTS MALAY MUSLIM SOLDIERS INTO ARMOUR FORMATION

For the uninitiated, the Singapore Armour formation do not have Malay soldiers since its inception in 1968 for unspoken reasons. The formation uses armoured vehicles such as tanks and armoured carriers to spearhead advance movements and hold key objectives during times of war. From what I heard from my enciks, there were discomfort in the region after the AMX-13 tanks were first revealed during National Day Parade in 1969 but it was a source of pride among Singaporeans and assuring for those who lived in the young nation. Our leaders then don't have a choice, Singapore was a punching bag and her survival was at stake.

OFFICER WHO STOOD UP FOR NSF ON MRT IDENTIFIED

Some days ago, a story surfaced on social media where a man calmly mediated a misunderstanding between a NSF and a member of public on an MRT train. Our Singapore Army found that the man was no other than LTA Dionel Arun, a Platoon Commander in the 3rd Battalion, Singapore Guards.

RETIRED SOLDIER: LEE KUAN YEW SINCERELY CARED FOR OUR CONSCRIPT SOLDIERS

Mr Lee Kuan Yew visited SAFTI MI in Aug 1995 before the unit's opening ceremony. As you know, SAFTI's nearest MRT station back then was Boon Lay, a distance away. Our Commandant then (a Brigadier General) was giving a brief to Mr Lee. Lee suddenly asked how far is the nearest MRT to SAFTI MI. He was told it is 30 minutes by bus. Lee replied "How can our NS boys reach camp on time? Did you arrange the army tonners to pick them up?". The Commandant replied "No". Then Lee stared at the Commandant, turned to then Defence Minister Dr Tony Tan and said "Can you please arrange for ferry buses to pick up our NS boys as soon as possible? Four waves in the morning and four waves in the evening."

FORMER PES E SOLDIER IS NOW A COMBAT FIT COMMISSIONED OFFICER

I VOLUNTEERED FOR SAF VOLUNTEER CORPS

Okay first, calm down. Set your hard feelings aside. I know it’s hard to, and you might say I’ve never been through NS so I don’t know shit and should keep my mouth shut. Singapore is a small country, and we need an army to defend ourselves should we ever be at war, but with such a small population it would be hard to make up the numbers needed to form an army big enough that we wouldn’t be pushed over by the enemy. I know all guys give up 2 years of their life just to serve and defend us, and still have to be subject to reservist call-ups even after they ORD, and I truly respect all your determination and willpower that is needed to go through and serve NS.

OVER 200 APPLY FOR SAF VOLUNTEER CORPS

Volunteers can choose to serve in wide-ranging fields, from operational deployments such as Auxiliary Security Trooper and Bridge Watchkeeper, to professional roles such as legal specialist staff and doctors — alongside regular soldiers in active units. They can switch roles during their stint and there is no minimum period of service. They are expected to be called up seven days a year.

FITNESS EXPERTS CONCERNED OVER NEW IPPT
