Sheng Siong supermarket is truly impressive. After announcing an additional one month salary for its employees, it went around neighbourhoods silently giving donations at wakes out of kindness. This is setting the bar way too high for competitor NTUC FairPrice supermarket which is already being accused of raising its prices during COVID-19.

A dead rat was found in a pack of basmati rice that was bought by a resident in Bedok Reservoir Road. In a post that has since gone viral, the netizen claimed that the House Brand basmati rice was bought at a Sheng Siong branch located at Blk 739 Bedok Reservoir Road on Friday, and to his horror, a dead rat was found inside the rice when his daughter opened the packet at home.

I bought some prawns at today from the Sheng Siong branch at Segar Road. When I was cleaning the prawns, I notice some slimy white substance oozing out from the prawn. Looks disgusting. I don't know what is that and had sent some pictures to AVA. I will keep some of the prawns in case AVA asks to investigate.

Do you know that NTUC FairPrice loses about 1,000 trolleys every year in more than 90 of the stores that they operate in? Fairprice spends around $150,000 every year on repairing and recovering trolleys left in random places. Another supermarket chain, Sheng Siong, loses 90 metal and 180 plastic trolleys each month. This means that $120,000 is loss on just trolleys. Even the $1 dollar coin deposit for the trolley does not deter the upward trend of abandoned trolleys.

With inflation rising rapidly over the past decade, you might have find yourself spending more and more on groceries. But while a supermarket might seem like a nice, big place to get all your essentials while allowing you a breather from your hectic life, it’s actually waging a psychological war on you every time you step into one, a battle that almost everyone will never triumph.
