The People's Action Party announced today that Sembawang Group Representative Constituency (GRC) will be headed by Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan, who will be running with old team mates Dr Lim Wee Kiak, Mr Vikram Nair, former election hopeful Mr Ong Ye Kung - a director of group strategy at Keppel Corporation who is making his second attempt to enter Parliament - and 36 year-old corporate lawyer and PAP newcomer Amrin Amin.

ONG YE KUNG MAKES POLITICAL RETURN IN PAP’S SEMBAWANG GRC LINE-UP

On Friday (14 August 2015), the PAP officially announced its candidates for Sembawang GRC. It comprises of Khaw Boon Wan, Vikram Nair, Lim Wee Kiak as well as two new faces Amrin Amin and Ong Ye Kung. SDP GIVES UP SEMBAWANG GRC FOR SAKE OF OPPOSITION UNITY

In order for the various opposition parties to come to an agreement to avoid multi-cornered contests in the constituencies, there must be a give-and-take attitude. In this regard, the SDP will do its part and relinquish our claim on the Sembawang GRC. We apologise to the residents of the Sembawang GRC but we feel that in order that there be one-to-one contests between the PAP and the opposition parties, compromise is key.

Three new PAP activists have appeared frequently in Sembawang GRC's grassroot activities leading to speculations that they may be potential new candidates for the upcoming General Elections that has to be held by January 2017. The PAP has planned to introduce Chan Chun Sing into Sembawang grc and move its current popular anchor minister khaw boon wan to a grc which is more vulnerable (PAP volunteers have speculated it to be East Coast GRC because Lim Swee Say is unpopular due to his poor people skills.).
