LHL has congratulated Halimah Yacob for becoming the President of Singapore. Interestingly, he thanked Farid Khan and Salleh Marican for accepting their disqualification as "this is the way to make our democratic processes work properly". Really?

Following the announcement that both their bids for presidential candidacy have been rejected, applicants Salleh Marican and Farid Khan have been open about voicing their disappointment with the results.

I refer to the article “Halimah Yacob only one to get eligibility certificate, set to be Singapore’s next President” (Straits Times, Sep 11).

In news just that just broke, Halimah Yacob will be confirmed as the incoming Singapore President, as only one Certificate of Eligibility has been issued. This means that Singaporeans need not go to the polls to vote for their President, as it is widely believed Halimah Yacob is deemed as the only candidate eligible.

Netizen Ismail Kassim thinks Mdm Halimah Yacob is an inspiring personality but not when she is a "PAP-sponsored" candidate. He acknowledged that all 3 candidates have achieved a lot but are only hurting themselves by taking part in the "flawed EP contest".

Madam Halimah is the only aspiring candidate to automatically qualify so far, having served as Speaker of Parliament for more than three years. The two other hopefuls, Second Chance Properties chief executive Salleh Marican, 67, and Bourbon Offshore Asia Pacific chairman Farid Khan, 62, fall short of the criteria for private sector candidates.

Halimah Yacob has finally submitted her application for the upcoming Presidential Election. She understands the importance of the PE and said the election process has been good so far. She wants to serve the people with all her heart and hopes to get a favourable response. Are you convinced?
