The body of the boatman was retrieved on Wednesday evening. Ong Hock Long, 33 years old was the only person on the river taxi when it caught fire. He had jumped into the Singapore River after it caught fire. News sources revealed that Mr Ong was troubled by a break-up that happened 2 months ago. According to netizens, just hours before the incident, Mr Ong had updated his Facebook account with this message, "If one day , I had an accident and I lost my memory , how are you gonna make me remember you ?"

At 6.26pm, SCDF was alerted to a boat on fire in the Singapore river, near Esplanade Drive. The fire engulfed a passenger boat (or better known as River taxi) and was extinguished by the SCDF using 2 water jets from the river bank. There was a reported missing person from the boat.
