REPORT ANY FRIENDS OR FAMILY MEMBERS AT RISK OF RADICALISATION, MHA URGED

In the wake of the arrest of the first Singaporean female to be radicalised, the MHA has called on everybody to do their part to weed out radicalisation, by reporting those individuals who they feel are the most at risk of radicalisation. By working together to weed out these radicalised individuals and to report them early, they could be stopped from being led astray by extremist ideology and may not need to be severely dealt with under the law. Such a move would also give these individuals the opportunity to receive proper guidance and counselling, and be steered away from the radicalisation. The MHA made the call to the family members, relatives and friends as well as the community yesterday.

YAACOB IBRAHIM: S’POREANS MUST BE ALERT TO THOSE WHO SUPPORT TERRORIST IDEOLOGY

I am dismayed by the recent arrests of the self-radicalised Singaporeans. This comes in the midst of terrorist attacks around the world, which have caused the loss of so many innocent lives. We must remain vigilant as the war against terrorism is an ongoing global battle, and must not hesitate to condemn terrorist groups that employ violence in the name of Islam. At the same time, we must be alert to those who seemingly show support for terrorism, in whatever form. Ultimately, we should never give credence to the entire terrorist ideology.

WP PRITAM SINGH: S’PORE’S ARREST OF ISIS RADICALS, PUTS US AT RISK OF REVENGE ATTACKS?

Just returned from house visits in Eunos (with an interesting exchange with a new citizen), but this story has been on the back of my mind the whole evening. I have no sympathies for this lot or any other lot that professes violence. But the real worry I have is that we invite ourselves to become a target for terrorism, not least because this sets a precedent for all other "terror" "groups" that fit in our definition of radicalisation.
