LAWRENCE WONG: GOVT TO CONTINUE BUILDING MORE HDB FLATS, COOLING MEASURES TO GO ON

In an interview with reporters today, newly appointed Minister of National Development Lawrence Wong says It is still “not time yet” to ease the cooling measures put in place by his predecessor, Mr Khaw Boon Wan. “We don’t want to risk a premature market rebound,” he said, adding that the government would ease the cooling measures depending on a whole range of indicators, including price, domestic and overseas economic situation, and whether the US Federal Reserve was likely to increase interest rates.

REAL ESTATE AGENCIES ASKING GOVT TO PUSH PROPERTY PRICES UP AGAIN

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has been resisting calls from real estate developers to ease off cooling measures. The Real Estate Developers’ Association of Singapore has repeatedly called on the Government to ease some of the cooling measures, especially the additional buyer's stamp duty. It said earlier this year that the ABSD on the high-end housing market “runs counter to the Government’s efforts to encourage foreign investment flows into the country”.

HIGH PROPERTY PRICES ARE NOT A BAD THING

Government shouldn’t penalise those Singaporeans who “have it”! Singaporeans are more than a group of dissenters. Singapore is more than the social media. The government should be focusing on interests of Singaporeans at large, not a small group of people. Frankly speaking any country bound to have some dissenters and this group usually form a tiny percentage and they will never satisfy whatever the government do.
