Progress Singapore Party member Kumaran Pillai was asked by a few journalists about the state of opposition unity in the upcoming General Elections (GE). He answered that there is a loose alliance among the larger parties. These parties have a mutual respect and understanding to avoid 3-cornered fights. Kumaran Pillai also said that certain "fringe parties" have been very reckless by going on a head-on collision course. However he believes in democracy, and having a plurality of voices is a good thing. Therefore he still encourages all parties to contest in the GE if they really feel that they are bringing something extra to the table.

With the upcoming General Elections expected to be held soon, many speculate that GE2020 will be held while Covid19 is still around. While the Elections Department (ELD) has not released its campaigning rules, there has been talk that GE2020 may be a virtual GE campaign due to social distancing measures in place. Many political parties have stepped up their game to overcome the Covid19 challenges by going online.

There have been speculations both by the state media and netizens that GE2020 will be called in July 2020. According to the latest campaigning guidelines by ELD, it seems that the PAP may be keen to hold the GE in the midst of a Covid19 pandemic. Not to be outmaneuvered by the PAP, major political parties like the Singapore Democratic Party, The Workers' Party and Progress Singapore Party have proactively made calls for donations, volunteers and members to help with their campaigns.

On 10 June, Leong Mun Wai called out the speeches by Lee Hsien Loong and Lawrence Wong as being "far short of substance" especially when Singaporeans were hoping to find answers to soothe their anxieties caused by Covid19. Instead Leong Mun Wai raised 10 points which Lee Hsien Loong or Lawrence Wong could have addressed instead of spewing out empty rhetoric.

In a virtual press conference on 29 May 2020, political veterans Ravi Philemon and Michelle Lee announced the formation of a new political party - Red Dot United. Ravi Philemon and Michelle Lee shared the goals for their party, and explained the need for another credible voice in Singapore's political landscape.

During a Bloomberg TV interview, Minister for Trade and Industry (MTI) Chan Chun Sing told the interviewer there is "not much time" left for Singapore to hold its next General Elections. He tried to explain away that the parliament has to be dissolved in Jan 2021, as this would be five years after the first sitting of the current government. If based on his explanation, Singaporeans will have a maximum of 8 months before the General Elections is called.

Few days back an Anonymous video was circulating on social media which claims that the party has been infiltrated by foreign proxies. The video also named several PSP members and claimed that they are disrupting PSP from helming the next stage of Singapore. After police reports were made and PSP did their own internal investigation, they found out that the person who created and spread the video was their own party member Daniel Teo Weilong.

Last week, some dubious FB pages made posts alleging that a prominent Progress Singapore Party (PSP) member, Mr Brad Bowyer, had quit the party. However, our anonymous sources debunked such fake news from these FB pages about Brad Bowyer quitting the party.. In fact they reaffirmed he remains a valued PSP member. They explained that Brad Bowyer had deleted his FB fan page simply because he does not want to be in the limelight at this moment.

The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) has issued a strongly worded statement, which indicated that the Party strongly mandates that Singapore needs to be governed under the tenets of transparency, independence and accountability, to which the Party highly subscribes to. To this end, PSP finds that the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA) falls short of these expected values.

The party, led by former PAP MP and veteran politician, Dr Tan Cheng Bock, have released a few posters on its social media channels that points the way the party is focusing on for the elections. Singapore can expect the PSP to focus on issues like the cost of living, education and the affordability of healthcare and retirement during their campaigning for the elections.
