Contrary to popular belief and most of what you learn in social studies not all races are treated equally in Singapore. Privilege and prejudice are very much alive in Singapore. Just because we aren’t burning each other for being of a different race doesn’t mean we are clean from the ugly reality of racism. Just do a quick search of rooms for rent and you will see the words “Chinese preferred“ and “no Indian” all over their websites.

More nationality-based prejudice, IPS survey finds

There is a growing discomfort across nationalities, even as comfort levels across race and religion appear to have largely remained the same, a survey has found. Some 32.1 per cent of Singaporeans surveyed felt that prejudice based on nationality has become more widespread now compared to five years ago, and this is more so than the increase in other types of prejudices such as race, age or religion.
