Covid19: Staff of Bedok Reservoir Pre-School Asked to Go to Khatib MRT Pick-Up Point for Swab Test

A pre-school in Bedok Reservoir has registered its staff for a slot at Khatib MRT to be picked up for swab test. This is strange as there is a pick-up point at Tampines West which is much nearer to where most of the staff are staying. It takes 1.5 hours to travel from Bedok to Khatib by MRT. During this covid-19 situation, doesn't it make sense to shorten travel distance to minimise risk of exposure to viruses?

INCLUSIVE PRE-SCHOOL TO RAISE SCHOOL FEES TO TWICE THE CURRENT COST

Kindle Garden told parents last week that it would raise fees from $980 to $1,880 a month for full-day childcare from January next year. This is before factoring in the goods and services tax, and subsidies from charity Awwa, which runs the centre, and the Government. The median fee for full-day childcare is $867 as of the end of June.

STAFF OF PCF SPARKLETOTS IN CLEMENTI DIAGNOSED WITH TB, KIDS THERE TO BE SCREENED

This time, a staff of a PCF Sparkletots pre-school was diagnosed with active tuberculosis. The pre-school in Clementi was immediately informed when this case is confirmed, triggering a mass screening of staff and children who had been in close contact with the infected staff. So far, 66 staff and students of the school located at Clementi Avenue 1 had been screened by the MOH , with 45 tested negative, and 21 more awaiting a doctor's evaluation. All 66 screened do not suffer from active TB. This must be a scary time for parents of the kids sent to the school. Most of these kids are very young, and most of the parents are worried about the TB skin test and how that would affect their young children.

TAN CHUAN JIN: PRE-SCHOOL PRICES UNLIKELY TO RISE

Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin says that pre-school prices are unlikely to rise despite a proposed law that forces them to adhere to higher standards. During the parliamentary debate on the Early Childhood Development Centres Bill, which was passed in parliament, 6 MPs raised the issue of the possibility of raised prices.

NEW LAWS TO GOVERN CHILDCARE CENTRE IS A LONG TIME COMING

It's about time childcare centres are looked at more stringently. While we rush to meet demands for more childcare centres to place our young children during the day while the parents go off to work, we also have ot ensure that these children are well protected by the very childcare centres that we place them in. There have been one too many cases of alleged abuse happening in childcare centres. It is time we put a stop to this, and ensure that the quality and caliber of staff in these childcare are up to standards.
