PRC TO PENALIZE PRC TOURISTS WHO BEHAVE BADLY OVERSEAS

China is starting to blacklist poorly-behaved tourists as it seeks to rescue the image of its citizens as holidaymakers. According to a regulation by the China National Tourism Administration (NTA) that entered effect this week, tourists will be blacklisted for offences including acting antisocially on public transport, damaging private or public property, disrespecting local customs, sabotaging historical exhibits or engaging in gambling or pornographic activities.

PRC WHO MURDERED SINGAPOREAN ESCAPES DEATH PENALTY

In September 2011, PRC Wang Wenfeng was convicted of murdering a taxi driver in 2011. He was given a life sentence but prosecution lawyers pressed an appeal to have the sentence increased to death by hanging. However, yesterday the court ruled that the life sentence ruling would be upheld. Wang, visibly relieved, fell to his knees with joy and pressed his palms together in gratitude to his lawyer.

TEO CHEE HEAN IN PRC TO DISCUSS LAW ENFORCEMENT COOPERATION

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean met Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli, as well as Chinese State Councillor and Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun today during an official visit to China. They affirmed the “substantive and multi-faceted cooperation between Singapore and China” and agreed to strengthen the relationship between Singapore and the PRC, according to an MFA statement. An A*Star scholarship holder Ouyang Xiangyu has been kicked out of Stanford University. She is facing 4 charges of poisoning her lab mates. Stanford told The Straits Times that Ms Ouyang is "no longer a student" there. It had at first banned her from its California campus in November last year. Ouyang Xiangyu had once called the school "a paradise", according to a lab mate who spoke to the police.
