HEARTLAND BROTHELS THRIVING AFTER GEYLANG ILLEGAL VICE CLAMPDOWN

Ms Vanessa Ho, director of sex workers' rights group Project X, believes increased police raids on unlicensed brothels in Geylang could have resulted in businesses moving to public housing. "We know a handful of sex workers who work out of HDB flats, and I estimate that there must be hundreds of such brothels," she said. Enforcement action since January shows at least 82 women have been arrested for suspected involvement in vice activities within residential areas and units.

BOY MOLESTED TWICE IN TWO DAYS BY SAME MAN IN SAME LIFT

The court was told that at about 8.50pm that day, the victim was cycling home after buying some groceries when he noticed Hashim standing near the rubbish chute area at the HDB block. Just as the victim wheeled his bicycle into the lift, Hashim followed him in and proceeded to strike up a conversation with the victim. As the lift was ascending, Hashim stretched out his hand and molested the victim. The victim reacted by immediately covering his groin area with his hand and Hashim retracted his hand.

POLICE ARRESTED MAN SUSPECTED OF DRINK DRIVING AND CRASHING AT BRADDELL ROAD

A man was arrested for suspected drink driving after crashing his car into a tree along Braddell Road on Sep 27 at around 11.25pm. In a video of what happened that was widely circulated online, the car can first be seen travelling on the first lane of the three-lane road. The driver then mounted the kerb and crashed into a tree at a relatively high speed. The car's bonnet was severely damaged and debris was strewn across the road. The accident actually also involved another car as well as a taxi.

BUS DRIVER WHO VERBALLY ABUSED POLICEMAN RESIGNED, CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION

The bus driver who shouted at a police officer Sep 27 at Jurong, has resigned and is currently under police investigation. It was reported that during the exchange, the driver used obscene language and made hand gestures as the officer was patiently trying to calm him down. Police investigations are ongoing, with the driver initially investigated for a dispute with an LTA officer over how he had stopped his bus on a double yellow line.

BODY FOUND IN WATERS OFF SENGKANG PARK

A blue tent normally used by police to cover bodies was placed along a cycling and jogging track across the canal from Sengkang Riverside Park, near Sengkang Sports Centre. A police cordon stretching about 300m had also been set up. Residents and joggers were turned away from the cordon and have to make big detour into the residential areas which are a few hundred metres away.

BEDOK NORTH MCDONALDS FIRE AN ACT OF MISCHIEF

The fire that broke out at a McDonald's restaurant in Bedok North was believed to be an act of mischief, and resulted in staff and customers having been evacuated. It was understood that the fire started at the toilet in the fast food outlet.

TWO ELDERLY VICTIMS OF SNATCH THEFT, THIEVES NO YOUNG SPRING CHICKEN EITHER

In one of the cases, two men snatched a gold chain from a 63-year-old woman along Race Course Road on Sunday. Police received a report at about 11.20am and arrested a 55-year-old suspect at the scene, the stolen chain was recovered after that. On the very next day, his accomplice, a 45-year-old, was arrested the next day along Commonwealth Crescent. On the same day at around 5pm, police received a report of a snatch theft at Jalan Bukit Merah. A male suspect snatched a bag containing S$50 in cash and a mobile phone which belonged to a 72-year-old woman while inside the lift of a flat. With the aid of police cameras, a 64-year-old suspect was arrested at 6.30pm.
