SQ HIRING FOREIGN TALENT AS PILOTS

Singapore Airlines is actively reaching out to more nationalities for their cadet pilot recruitment drive. It says that this was to meet future needs. Singapore Airlines has always been noted to hire Singapore citizens and Singapore PR as pilots, and it is believed to be the first time that SIA has publicly cast its net wide for cockpit crew. Seems now even SIA, the national carrier, is looking for foreign talent to fill up their pool of pilots. Does this mean that there are really no longer many Singaporeans who wants to be pilots? Or is our talent pool and labour force really dwindling?

JAL PILOTS WHO TRIED TO TAKE OFF FROM TAXIWAY AT CHANGI AIRPORT SUSPENDED

Pilots of JAL flight 38 mistakenly tried to take off from a taxiway at Singapore's Changi Airport on 12th July, but were stopped just in time before a crash occurred. The pilots had apparently thought that they were on a runway. The aircraft bound for Tokyo’s Haneda airport accelerated at takeoff speed for a few seconds in the early hours of the day, but stopped soon after receiving distressed calls to stop from Air Control.

INDIAN PILOTS ONLY NEED 35 MINUTES TO GET FAKE LICENSE

Just for sitting in the co-pilot's seat for 35 minutes, 25 year-old Mr Anupam Verma received a certificate showing that he has flown an aircraft for 360 hours. Mr Anupam is one of many pilots in India who are facing charges for falsely over-declaring the number of flight hours and ground training they have, according to documents submitted in the Indian courts. When he first started out as a pilot, Mr Anupam was given 2.8 million subsidy by the Indian government for his training to become a commercial pilot. But he admits that despite all his "training", he doesn't know what to do during emergencies or even how and where to land.
