The Philippine military believe they have recovered the body of a Singaporean fighter involved in the Marawi conflict even though it has not completed the identification process. The man was among 11 other foreign fighters who were killed amidst carrying out terror-related activities. There are reportedly other foreign fighters in the conflict zone of Marawi as Philippine troops continue to retaliate in regaining control of the city. The conflict has caused more than 400 deaths of civilians, security forces and militants.

A lone gunman attacked a casino, fired shots and set fire to gambling tables at Resorts World Manila earlier today, causing panic in the country which has already been on high alert. People could see smoke billowing from the building and heard loud bangs as others got injured fleeing for their lives. There are no casualties so far. The Islamic State rushed to claim responsibility but the police later clarified it was likely a robbery. They said the man, reportedly a Caucasian, ran straight for the casino chips and did not aim his rifle at anyone in particular. He poured gasoline on gambling tables and tried to steal US$2.27 million worth of chips. The police has since recovered the stolen amount.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has reacted to the Philippine's Military statement today that stated Singaporeans are also involved in the IS led insurgency in the Philippines. MHA confirmed on Friday that a Singaporean man who has been in south Philippines since the 1990s has been implicated in terrorism activities there, The man was named as Muhamad Ali s/o Abdul Rahiman @ Muawiya. However, MHA indicated that there is no confirmed reports that this man is involved in the ongoing armed insurgency in Marawi on Mindanao island. MHA also reiterated that they will work with the Philippines authorities closely to identify any Singaporean who may be involved in terrorism-related activities in the Philippines. the MHA takes a serious view of anyone who supports, promotes, undertakes or makes preparations to undertake armed violence regardless of where the violence takes place, the statement continues.
