NLB to Reinstate Banned Penguin Book After Drawing Breasts on Male Penguin

In light of the public uproar over the removal of two non-pro-family books from the shelves of public libraries across Singapore, the National Library Board has announced that it will be reinstating the banned book And Tango Makes Three so long as minor edits to the book’s content are made. Tu Shu Guan, a spokesperson for the NLB, said: “In the spirit of compromise, we have decided to reinstate the book And Tango Makes Three to the shelves of all public libraries, but in order to ensure that the NLB’s pro-family stance is maintained, we will require that breasts be drawn on one of the two parent penguins.”

EX-GOVERNMENT SCHOLAR: I CAN NO LONGER DEFEND THE PAP GOVERNMENT

For most of my life and career, I have defended the government and the civil service. Even today, I will defend some of my friends within the NLB, whom I know did not agree with the final decision, but had no choice but to comply with the line taken by senior management. But this, I have found, is truly indefensible. This government I have defended, even when I did not agree with its policies and actions, has crossed a red line. It has lost my vote today, but worst of all, I think it has lost my faith.

LOCAL WRITERS BOYCOTT NLB-SPONSORED EVENTS OVER BAN ON GAY CHILDRENS BOOK

I have deliberated long and hard and concluded that I could not, in good conscience, grace this year's festival. My presence would have been the symbolic one of a writer. And there was no way I could attend this event without it being misperceived by many that I stood apart from my fellow writers and approved of NLB's action against alleged controversial books. And there was no way I could defend myself or clarify the festival's aims fast enough once the suggestion had been made.

AMERICAN EXPAT: SG SHOULD NOT BAN BOOK ON GAY PENGUINS

I too, am a parent. I too have had my children bring over books that I am not comfortable with them reading at their current ages. The difference between you and I is that I tell my children to put the book back because it’s not right for our family, while you choose to tell ALL children that they may not read the book. Your preferences don’t trump mine. You argue that it is oppositional to your faith. I would counter that all religious texts are oppositional to mine. Yet I am not asking the library to remove children’s bibles or children’s ramayans because they have no place in my faith. (Nor do I want to, for the record. We even own some.) Your faith does not trump mine.

GAY PENGUINS TURN STRAIGHT

THE animal kingdom's most famous gay couple has split up. Silo and Roy, the cohabiting penguins of Central Park Zoo, are no longer an item. But the affair ended when Scrappy, a new female penguin, moved into the neighbourhood and caught Silo's eye. "Silo and Roy stopped spending as much time together or building a nest," John Rowden, the zoo's head curator, told The New York Post. They blazed a trail for six other gay penguin couples at the zoo.

HERE IS THE BANNED PRO-GAY BOOK “AND TANGO MAKES THREE”

Dear A.S.S, Please see the attachments. I have attached the children book "And Tango Makes Three". It was removed from National Library Board shelves recently for being "anti-family". I am sending this to you because I want Singaporeans to decide what to read for themselves and not subject themselves to PAP censorship.
