MFA responded by saying the ICJ ruling of 2008 was clear and unambiguous, and thus Malaysia's application for interpretation is unnecessary and without merit. Some experts claimed that Malaysia's latest move, on top of them bidding to revise the ICJ's ruling of Pedra Branca filed in February this year, as an attempt to win over Malaysian voters, and both attempts are unlikely to stand up to scrutiny.

HOW DID INDON NAVY DETAIN S’PORE BOAT IN S’PORE WATERS? WAS SG NAVY SLEEPING?

Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the boat Seven Seas Conqueress was detained by Indonesian navy while it was within the territorial waters of Singapore. As a result, there was absolutely no basis for the crew's detention in Indonesian prison. Isn't this alarming that a Singapore boat within our own legal waters can be detained by the military of another country without repurcussions and the Singapore Navy is no where to be seen. If the Indonesian Navy ship did infringe into Singapore waters to enact the arrest of the Singaporean boat, where was the Singapore Navy whose job was to protect our waters and ships? Are they sleeping on the job?

PAP MINISTER: S’PORE LEGAL TEAM CONFIDENT OF FENDING OFF PEDRA BRANCA LEGAL CHALLENGE

Responding to a parliamentary question about the re-opening of the Pedra Branca territorial dispute case and how it was affect Singapore-Malaysia relations, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan claims that the Singapore legal team had carefully studied Malaysia's fresh evidence and were confident of Singapore's case. Singapore's legal team believes that the three new documents provided by Malaysia did not satisfy the criteria for revision of the 2008 judgement which awared Pedra Branca to Singapore.

MALAYSIA FILES CLAIM TO INTERNATIONAL COURT WITH “NEW FACTS” TO WRESTLE BACK PEDRA BRANCA FROM S’PORE

Malaysia has filed an application to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to revise the judgement which awarded Pedra Branca to Singapore after it claimed to have made discovery of some fact which was a decisive factor. The application was filed on 2nd Feb 2017 by Malaysia's Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali. Malaysia stopped short of revealing the "new discovery" but some questioned the timing of Malaysia's move and its potentially nationalistic motives for the soon to be called General Elections.

MALAYSIAN ARRESTS SINGAPORE FISHERMEN IN SINGAPORE WATERS NEAR PEDRA BRANCA

4 Singapore fishermen and their ship were arrested by Malaysian marine police in Singapore waters at about 6AM on Tuesday. Singapore's Foreign Affairs ministry has registered its "concerns" with Malaysia over this illegal detention. In a statement to the media, the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) confirmed that the ship, SMF1195, was detained by the Malaysian police on Tuesday for alleged "illegal fishing in Malaysian waters". The fishing ship was impounded at Kota Tinggi in Johor.

SULTAN OF JOHOR: I AM GOING TO FIGHT FOR PEDRA BRANCA

THE Sultan of Johor has ordered the state government to look into filing an appeal against the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) decision six years ago to award Pedra Branca to Singapore. Pedra Branca - which Malaysia refers to as Pulau Batu Puteh - belonged to Johor and should remain a part of it, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail was quoted by the online portals of Malay-language dailies Utusan Malaysia and Sinar Harian as saying yesterday. He said he was following the wishes of his father, the late Sultan Iskandar Ismail.
