The recent saga on the acquittal of a maid, Parti Liyani, has sent shockwaves throughout the Nation on the severe state of our Justice system which is in need of urgent reforms. We have always pride ourselves, as MP Jamus Lim puts it, on efficiency and not compassion or the quest for truth. Hence, the situation we are facing now is dire and fast slipping into a scenario similar to Najib Razak’s Malaysia. I wish these issues had surfaced before the elections! Is it too late now, only the PSP and WP MPs will know?

In the Facebook post on Tuesday evening, Dr Lee repeated what she knew of her father's stance, that he wanted the property to be demolished as he did not want Singapore to have a cult of Lee Kuan Yew. Dr Lee also reiterated the reason why the house should be demolished - LKY did not want it open to public or turned into a shrine, and their mother, Mdm Kwa Geok Choo was a private person and did not want the public trampling through her home.

Gilbert Goh thinks the legal action against Workers' Party is just a distraction from the problems plaguing Oxley saga and the upcoming Presidential election. He compared this to Ang Mo Kio Town Council's alleged corruption which was mysteriously solved by dismissing a general manager and settled out of public scrutiny.

I am surprised that AGC takes such negative reaction to a private post. Is there a government servant whose duty is to follow the Facebook activity of all people related to Hsien Yang and I, including our private musings. Also, what Shengwu posted is a common topic amongst Singaporeans who are well informed. Is this not an example of " big Brother government". Perhaps it is a case of "if the hat fits, take it."

Did the seller take a charitable donation tax deduction? If so, the estimated tax credit is about $13.2 million (2.5 times tax deduction assuming the highest marginal tax rate of 22 per cent). The seller’s annual salary is reported to be $2.2 million – which would compute to an estimated annual income tax of about $450,000. So, does it mean that the estimated charitable tax credit of about $13.2 million may be enough to pay for about six years (maximum carry forward of five years) of the seller’ income tax?

Singapore keeps demolishing its history in its inane desire to modernise. Every historical building have shelf life. There is no historical building safe from the bulldozers, unless of course, the historical building is located at Oxley Road. Then the government will do all it can to preserve, including defying the wish of its founding father

Former MP Irene Ng has come up with a brilliant idea to resolve the FamiLEE dispute by asking for 38 Oxley Rd to be demolished NOW. "I believe that as long as the core issue remains – what to do with the house – and as long as the house stands, the saga will not end. It will be a running sore. The Lee family will continue to suffer, and we will not be spared... To end the saga now by demolishing the house, all parties involved have to pay a price... Demolish the house, end the saga now, and let's all move on."

I would like to offer a solution. The only way forward for all of us – the Lee family, the government and for Singaporeans - is for each of us to give up something for Singapore to win. We all lose some but we win the bigger picture: Singapore’s image. It is of utmost importance for the fate of 38 Oxley to be decided now and not left to the future or future governments. We don’t want future generations of government and family members to be embroiled in more legal battles. Uncertainty about 38 Oxley’s future may see Singapore being dragged into many more years of arguments and unpleasant accusations.
