BRADDELL FLYOVER TO FINALLY OPEN, TWO YEARS LATER THAN PLANNED

Finally, after almost five years of work and two very well publicised delays, the Braddell Flyover will finally be opened on the 11 June this year. Residents living in the area where the work was being done can finally have peace from the constant noise and dust from the work taking place there.

Now, residents can enjoy the noise from vehicles travelling on the new flyover, plus the dust these vehicles will generate when they travel on the flyover. Nice change, for once. LTA has hoped that the new flyover will ease congestion on the busy stretch of Braddell, where vehicles going into CTE and Upper Serangoon Road generally share the same exit points. But the project faced many difficulties, not least the original contractor going bankrupt in 2014.

NTUC TO REMAIN OPEN DURING CNY, NO NEED TO STOCK UP GROCERIES

NTUC has announced that it will open 83 of its outlets island wide for 24 hours on the eve of the Chinese New Year, to allow shoppers to continue shopping for their CNY goodies.

25 of its outlets will also remain open throughout the CNY period itself. This is a change from previous years, where most of the outlets are closed during the holidays. In fact, most of the shops are normally closed during the CNY period that it became the norm for Singaporeans to stock up on food items to tide over the CNY period. Nowadays, most shops remain open.

This is good news for customers, but possibly good news for NTUC and the other shops also, as remaining open during the period will ensure many shoppers will buy stuff there, and thus, more money coming in for them. For customers, no need to worry about grocery during the CNY period like in previous years.

INTERN KENA SCOLD FOR EATING FOOD OFFERED BY COLLEAGUE & COMPANY

I was an intern with this ang moh firm. We always have this impression that the ang moh culture is open but my internship has proved that this is not true of all ang moh firms.

Example 1
One morning, one of the permanent staff stepped into office and announced that she had bought some chocolates from her holiday and she will leave them in the shared fridge for everyone to try. She gestured that we interns should try it too so my classmate and I took a piece of chocolate each.

By 4pm, we could hear some ruckus coming from the pantry area. We went to take a look. Turns out the lady was asking how come the chocolates are finishing already. Another of the permanent staff, the sort that you would always see hanging around the pantry area and forever munching something sort of person, glared accusingly at my classmate and I. She said, "Must be those interns lah... Dunno how to automatic."
