I refer to the article “Spring Singapore funds projects that promise 21,400 jobs” (Straits Times, Jan 26). It states that “When fully realised, these projects are expected to crank out 21,400 new skilled jobs and contribute $7.8 billion in value-add to the economy.

Though there is nothing wrong with Singaporean companies hiring foreigners, I was curious why such a blog that does not deal with advanced technology requires the skills of foreigners. Hence, I left a comment on that article. A few people chipped in. One of them is someone by the name of Ian Tan, whom is one of their staff working as a Web Engineer. He made personal attacks at me and accused me of trolling.

LOWEST JOB GROWTH SINCE 2009, BUT MOST JOBS WENT TO FOREIGNERS?

Since the “Overall seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 2 per cent. Compared to the last quarter, unemployment rose to by 0.2 percentage point to 3 per cent for residents and 3.1 per cent for citizens” - does it mean that most of the job growth went to foreigners and PRs – as the citizens and residents’ unemployment rates increased by 0.2 per cent whilst the overall unemployment rate (including foreigners) remained unchanged?

NATIONAL SERVICEMEN TO GET $80 MORE IN ALLOWANCES

According to a statement by the Ministry of Defence, from 1st December this year, all full-time national servicemen and operationally ready national servicemen will receive an additional $80 in allowances across all ranks. The increase applies to all NSFs and NSmen in the Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Civil Defence Force and Singapore Police Force.
