FOREIGN & NEW CITIZEN POPULATION INCREASED 7 TIMES MORE THAN TRUE BLUE S’POREANS

The citizen population grew last year by 33,900 (3,408,900 – 3,375,000). However, 20,815 new citizens were granted in 2015. So, does this mean that the net increase in “real” (non-new) citizens was only about 13,085 (33,900 – 20,815) (citizen births – citizen deaths – increase in Singaporeans overseas) for the year? If so, then the annual increase in new citizens may be outstripping that of “real” (non-new) citizens by about 7,730 (20,815 – 13,085) a year.

OPPOSITION PARTIES SHOULD SPEAK UP FOR THE CONCERNS OF NEW CITIZENS

In my view, some opposition parties inflicted a lot of damage on themselves when they went on vocally against immigration. At the forum, I made one suggestion which I have never heard anyone else make before. I said opposition parties should begin to speak up for the concerns of new citizens; if possible find one or two as candidates.

NON-S’POREAN POPULATION HITS ALL TIME HIGH?

I refer to the article ”Singapore population hits 5.54m but growth slowest in a decade” (Channel NewsAsia, Sep 30). It states that ”The number of non-residents — largely comprised of foreigners working here and their families, as well as students — rose by 2.1 per cent to 1.63 million, slower than the 2.9 per cent growth the previous year.” After adding the 530,000 permanent residents (PRs) – does it mean that the non-Singaporean population has reached an all time high of 39 per cent?
