JASON CHEE CLINCHES FIRST GOLD, CANCER AND NO LIMBS BE DAMNED

Congratulations to brave Singaporean hero Jason Chee, who has just won his first individual gold medal at the Asean Para Games on Friday in table tennis. Jason was diagnosed with choroidal melanoma (a cancer of the eye) in late April, which resulted in him losing his right eye. Previously, he had already lost both his legs, left arm and three fingers on his right hand due to a mishap which happened during his work on board a Republic of Singapore Navy warship in 2012.

INDIAN NAVY NSF PUNISHED TO DO 50 PUSH-UPS IF THEY SPOKE TAMIL DURING OFFICE HOURS

I was serving my National Service in the Navy back in 2011. During my BMT days, out of hundred over recruits, there were eight Indians. 1. The Indians were not allowed to sit together during mealtimes or even file in around each other in numbers more than more. According to my CSM, "This is the SAF. Not the Tamil Tigers". Although there was widespread use of Mandarin and other Chinese dialects, Tamil could not be used amongst ourselves "during office hours".

MINDEF: WE WILL INVESTIGATE & PUNISH THOSE GUILTY OF DISCRIMINATORY BEHAVIOUR

In a likely response to a viral article claiming a regular Navy personnel facing discrimination on the ship he served in, the SAF has issued the following statement. It states that MINDEF does not tolerate discriminatory behaviour and will be investigating the claims. If any personnel is found to have breached the SAF Code of Conduct, disciplinary proceedings will be taken.

US: CHINA EXERTS MILITARY CONTROL OVER SOUTH CHINA SEA ISLANDS

Not only has China started building installations on a set of disputed islands in the South China Sea, it has begun enforcing its military control over the air and waterways around them as well. According to CNN, which had been allowed to board a US reconnaissance plane to conduct a survey over the South China Sea and its disputed islands, the plane they were on received up to 8 warnings from PRC military personnel stationed on the islands to "go away" from what the PRCs considered Chinese airspace.

DEFENCE MINISTER: MALAYS ARE ALREADY SERVING AS SAILORS IN THE NAVY

Responding to a question on a perceived bias against Malays in the SAF and why they have been excluded from the Navy until now, Dr Ng said it was a "practical issue" of having halal-certified kitchens onboard ships. "(This is) because in a confined space, it is hard to have a halal kitchen. If you spend months out at sea, it is difficult." But provisions have been made for Malay Muslims who are willing to serve, said Dr Ng. "So we made and found some accommodation and started to have Malays in the navy as well, if the person is willing."

SINGAPORE AIR FORCE & NAVY READY FOR SEARCH & RESCUE MISSION

Singapore said on Sunday it has activated its air force and navy to help in the search and rescue operation for the AirAsia jet that went missing on a flight from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore. "Two C130s are already on stand-by for this purpose. We remain ready to provide any assistance to support the search and rescue effort," the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore said in a statement.
