NS GHOSTLY ENCOUNTER: MEDICAL WASTE ATTRACTS UNCLEAN SPIRITS

We ended up piling the boxes containing medical waste at the other end of our bunk, under the outside windows. A number of the Malay medics weren't very happy about the situation because according to their traditions, blood and other bodily wastes in a living space invite unclean spirits in. Then, problems started. A number of guys experienced sleep paralysis. Among them were the guys who had protested about the boxes so I dismissed it as mass hysteria initially. The second night I woke up to hear music playing. The room felt cold and the radio was changing channels. This wasn't a set with a remote control or anything. It had a solid slider which you moved to change frequency. It wasn't just moving up and down through the channels either- it was pausing on certain stations- not just the English language stations which we all listened to but oldies stations featuring classic Malay and Chinese songs from the 50s and 60s. Like an old man trying to find a channel he liked.

NSF: I’M GETTING DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY ATTACKS FROM ARMY

I have been in the army for a year and never once did I enjoy my time here other than enjoy doing everything with your friends. Recently I have been getting mood swings, I feel like a caged bird and honestly ,I'm sure everyone felt the same but they have been taking it with a suck thumb mentality. It is depressing seeing how easily people give up to power because they don't have a choice. I'm getting anxiety feeling trapped and I hide it from people. They say I looked depressed but what can I tell them? I feel muscles tensing every moment knowing I'm trapped. I hate that knowing I have another 11 months of being in a bunk, being trapped in the same camp.

IS NS OR HIGH DEFENCE SPENDING STILL NEEDED IN TODAY’S GEOPOLITICAL CLIMATE?

SDP has recently made a call to reduce our defence spending. While this may not resonate well with many of our cabinet ministers who were former ‘paper generals’, the underlying social costs to our Singaporean sons have to be understood against the tremendous sacrifices they face. Today’s geopolitical scene is a very different one. No country will bother to waste a megaton nuclear missile or hundreds of conventional cruise missiles just to wipe out a city for no good reason. Even a so-called mad country like N Korea will think many times before invading the South. So if you ask me two years is a really huge sacrifice for someone who is just merely there to become a mere statistic for a policy of deterrence.

19 YEAR-OLD NSF COMMITS SUICIDE, 3RD CASE IN RECENT WEEKS

In another tragic case of youth suicide in Singapore, another 19 year-old national serviceman has been found dead last night after he allegedly committed suicide by jumping from a HDB block following an argument with his brother. The teenager, who is a permanent resident from the Philippines, was spotted by a neighbour lying in a pool of his own blood at the foot of block 428 along Clementi Avenue 3 at about 11.30PM yesterday night.

BMT GHOSTLY ENCOUNTER: OLD MAN CHANTING IN 5TH STOREY TOILET

My camp, like many others, was built over a burial ground. One of my bunk mates and his buddy decided to go the building opposite to smoke. Just to be sure, they went to the highest floor, 5th to be exact, to smoke, just so they won't be noticed by any sergeants or the duty officer for the night. As they were enjoying their peaceful drags, they heard someone chanting from outside the cubicle. The chanting was in a different language so they didn't understand it, one of them told us that it was in Malay. The other said vaguely that it sounded Indian. there was an old man sitting on the urinal, with his eyes rolled all the way back, looking up into the ceiling and chanting those words. He had on a sarong looking thing and that's all. White hair, very little teeth, wrinkled all over and scrawny.

BMT GHOSTLY ENCOUNTER: LONG HAIR FOUND IN TOILET & HIGH-PITCHED SCREAMS HEARD DURING 7TH MONTH

This was during the ghost month so the sergeants forced us to go to bed by 10. So I decided to take my shower before heading to bed. Once we entered the toilets, we saw long strands of hair in the sink and even inside the cubicles. It was freaking long strands of hair. That's not the spooky part though. Later that night we heard a woman screaming at the top of her voice. It was so loud that it even woke up the most compulsive snorer in our bunk! The next day was book out day and all we wanted to do was rush home and get as far away from that place as possible.

PARENTS MUST VOTE WISELY TO SAVE THEIR SONS FROM NATIONAL SLAVERY

NSFs and NSmen who want change should first try to distance themselves from state propaganda. By voting for a government with little transparency and accountability, there will only be token changes. PAP is essentially fighting yesterday’s war with useless paper generals who have continued to rely on tax dollars after retirement. The activation of more than half a million soldiers in our little red dot is a logistical nightmare. Why plan to have one?

WHY WASTE TAXPAYERS MONEY TO TRAIN UNWILLING NZ TEEN FOR NATIONAL SERVICE?

For a male Singaporean, the PAP government will only allow you to renounce citizenship either when you are below 12 years old OR above 21 years old. Thus, most males are trapped in order to be conscripted. This rule has been in place since 1970s but most still don’t know about it. Frankly, Brandon only lived in Singapore when he was a baby and during pre-school years. He is now more Kiwi than Singaporean given that he has lived his entire school years and teenage years in New Zealand. Why waste taxpayer monies to train and house him in Singapore?
