I am so emotional now that finally at last at long last a true blue Singaporean has won an Olympic gold medal! We did not have to depend on any foreign born new immigrants. We depended on one of our own people, to develop, go overseas to train and achieve the ultimate results during the Rio Olympics! Joseph Schooling is only 21 years old, he is due for National Service, the compulsory service for all Singaporeans males. Schooling is now an Olympic champion and potential world champion in future. He is still young, he has the potential to beat the world record timing held by Micheal Phelps. f Schooling is forced to serve NS and stunt his swimming potential for 2 years in service of our nation.

A Singaporean man, Jedidiah Ian Tan (23 years old) applied to Canada for refugee protection citing alleged potential persecution in Singapore from national service authorities. Tan who was already exempted from national service on medical grounds claimed the exemption was revocable and he would have no redress in Singapore.

Hi all, I would like to write in to appeal to the public for more understanding towards our boys in green. With the recent public submissions on army boys from being shamed for not giving up seats in trains, shitting in underwear while giving up seats and also one helped to carry a child to enable her to watch the NDP.

I am a former national service guardsman. In the past, it used to be NSFs can hold their head high and walk with pride in our uniform. But these days it is difficult to do it. Why? It is because people like this boy don't respect the uniform. When you are out in SAF uniform, is it a must to hold hands and carry your girlfriend's bag like a p*ssy?

While I do not contend with the S'pore born Kiwi Teen who seeks to avoid national slavery, oops service call-up, I also strongly disagree in the manner that the S'pore government treats dual citizenship. After all, who asked my British father to fall in love with a local Chinese and bore me as a result? Should children like myself who is a loyal Commonwealth and S'pore citizen be forced to give up one in favour of the other. I want to serve my NS in obedience to the laws here but am very pissed that I must give up either my British or S'pore citizenship after that.

Sound out if you feel uncomfortable and please fall out immediately. Don't be threatened by any scare tactic that anything will happen to you if you don't continue the training. The only worse thing that can happen is if you drop dead or suffer permanent injury while training.

This year, i've started feeling more helpless about living in this country, and the events of this week have really ramped it up for me. The death of a boy lures a politician-giant out into public to disparage the boy's final moments and shut down the dawning realisation that we are all endangered by agents of the law. A mother seeking justice for the loss of her son is told that the armed forces to which he was lost is immune from being tried in a court of law. She is made instead to pay for the legal costs of those from whom she seeks justice. In both cases, it is faith in public institutions, and not the protection of individuals, that is upheld by the law.
