CHAO KENG GOD: HOW I FORCED SAF TO RELEASE ME FROM SERVING NS

"Hello people, I would like to share my PES F story. Before I start, here is to the people who say people who chao keng are pussies, hum ji, ball-less, etc. Not everyone is suited for the military. Not everyone is made for getting shouted at by sadistic superiors. For my case, I decided that NS pay of $480 was not going to cover my housing rent, my car installment, my food and my other expenses. I was not going to give up my freedom for a national duty.

Last week during the Parliament debate on President’s address, Chua Chu Kang GRC MP Alex Yam suggested on Wednesday (28 May) that NS should be expanded beyond just male citizens to include parties such as women and first-generation PRs, if the SAF Volunteer Corps (SAFVC) proves successful. His suggestion echoes several calls by other MPs to involve women in defence of the country.

NS – No handouts; Return what is rightfully ours

I read with dismay each time another ex-NSF comrade of mine raises his hand to ask for or suggest a different ‘reward’ or ‘handout’ for the time we spent in NSF. To do so is to buy into and be trapped by the narrative that this government has framed the issue. Their true intent is to turn THE issue of ‘more support and recognition’ for us into one of ‘more handouts, more goodies, more rewards, more benefits’.

Maintaining a relationship while serving NS

Going through NS myself, I’ve heard many stories about how a guy falls out of love due to his commitment to national service. There are cases where it turns out to be good, where the guy strives for his best and focuses on sharing his love with his brothers around. There is also the flip side where the poor fella emo (becomes emotional) for a few days and starts doing silly stuff. The top few worries that an attached enlistee will have is definitely his relationship.

STOMPers: ARE YOU HAPPY NOW – SOLDIERS DON’T DARE TO SIT ON TRAIN

Look at this now. How do you feel now? Someone who paid for their train ride don't even dare to sit despite there being so many vacant seats. So what if we are soldiers, we are human too. We feel tired too. We are proud enough to wear the uniform out. But the very people we are protecting in some way or another are just finding all means to gun us down. Please have some compassion people, one day your family member or loved one will be in a tough situation too and I believe you wouldn't be pleased to see photos or videos of them being posted.

7 THINGS AWARE IS UNAWARE OF, AS SHOWN BY THIS GAFFE

AWARE’s logic means that anything that one unique group cannot receive, the other group should not receive it either, ie, if women who cannot get conscripted and become NSmen and access additional benefits, then NSmen should not have these benefits either. If we apply this across the rest of society, we should dismantle the Pioneer Generation package. We should also stop subsidising healthcare costs for ObGyn, maternity and even prostate treatments. No need for a Women’s Charter, since there is no Men’s Charter.

Ng Eng Hen: NS to be shortened by a few weeks at most

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will be employing more regulars as full-time trainers of National Servicemen to make training more effective, efficient and possibly shorter, said Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen in Parliament today (March 6). As many as 1,100 more regulars could be hired to fill this vital role. This will increase the proportion of professional regular trainers in Basic Military Training Centre to about one in three trainers, down from the current one in six.“Let me quickly quell unrealistic expectations,” he added. “The time savings will be a few weeks at most, if any. We are not making no promises here as the Army has to study many details to ensure that we can continue to generate operationally ready units.”
