Following sharp criticism from hawkers on the price caps to be imposed at its new Bukit Panjang hawker centre, NTUC Foodfare said today that these limits - which were intended to keep basic meals affordable - would be reviewed from time to time if necessary, to take into account the cost of ingredients and inflation. KOPITIAM EMPLOYEE WHO SCRAPED DEAD SKIN WITH KNIFE FIRED

According to a spokesperson from Kopitiam, where a food court employee was caught on camera using a fruit knife to scrape dead skin off her hand, the errant employee has been sacked. The chain which operates more than 50 food courts in Singapore said that it issued a warning to the stall tenant, which dismissed the employee on yesterday night. After conducting investigations, Kopitiam also clarified that the knife in question was for the staff's personal use and it was not used to prepare any food at the mixed vegetable rice stall.

“RED CLOUD” IN WEST SINGAPORE FROM INCINERATOR PLANT ON PULAU BUKOM

Several netizens have submitted questions about a "red cloud" in the western sky in Singapore. Some netizens wondered if the redness in the sky was because of a massive fire at one of the factories on Jurong Island, or chemicals being spewed out of gas chimneys from one of the factories there. According to one netizen who called the NEA, the red cloud comes from an incinerator plant operating at Jurong at night. The light from the blaze brightens up the darkened sky and causes a "red cloud" to appear over western Singapore.

NEA: INDONESIAN CURRY PUFF SELLER PART OF FOREIGN SYNDICATE

Acting on information received, officers from NEA conducted a joint inspection together with the Housing & Development Board (HDB) and Ministry of Manpower (MOM), on 27 June 2014 at the HDB flat and found a foreign syndicate mass producing curry puffs. During the inspection, Mdm Robiah and eight other people, all of whom are on social visit passes, were preparing curry puffs on the floor of the premises. The food preparation was done in a very unhygienic condition and caused disamenities to the neighbours such as smell nuisance.

NEA: 95% OF CONSTRUCTION NOISE COMPLAINTS ARE BASELESS

Of the 40-odd complaints his team received daily last year about construction sites exceeding the noise limit, less than 10 per cent were found to be valid, said senior noise-enforcement officer Zulkifli Mat Noor. Most of the complaints were from unhappy residents who wanted some quiet time after a hard day’s work, said the officer from the National Environment Agency’s (NEA) pollution control department.
