RECENT HAZE IS CAUSED BY NORTHERN ASEAN REGION & OURSELVES

National Environment Agency (NEA) said that hotspots in the northern ASEAN region and local vegetation fires are some factors that could have contributed to the burning smell in Singapore. As the northern part of Southeast Asia is currently experiencing the traditional dry season, there has been a rise in the number of hotspots. In Singapore, there has also been incidences of vegetation fires. There has been 121 vegetation fires this year and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) attended to 20 of such incidences.

COMPANY FORBIDS US FROM WEARING MASKS OUTDOOR DESPITE WORSENING HAZE

I am not sure if MooTees staffs work outdoors like me, but I am very upset and demoralised that my company is not issuing stop work orders for outdoors staffs like me when the PSI hits the very unhealthy zone. In fact, even though I have been coughing for the past few days due to the haze, my boss expects me to work over time. In fact, he even forbids us from wearing masks because he said that would interfere with our work, and he doesn’t even issue us any masks.

THOMSON COMMUNITY CENTER GIVING OUT MOULDY N95 MASKS TO SENIOR CITIZENS

I went to collect two pieces of 3M N95 masks - models 8110S and 9105 - from Thomson Community Centre last Friday. When I checked 3M's website, I found that my mask model 8110S, which had the lot number 49334, had expired last November. Why were these expired masks issued? I have also heard of senior citizens receiving mouldy masks.

KIND S’POREAN BUYS EXTRA MASKS & DISTRIBUTES TO TOURISTS & NEEDY PEOPLE

Last Friday, I saw an uncle walking along the street near my office without a mask. Although he had received masks from the community Centre, but he forgot to bring it along. Fortunately, i have some in my car, so I passed him one. On my way driving home, I also noticed there are people working out doors without a mask and I wished I have more to give them. So during the weekend, I decided to buy a box and bring along with me everyday so whenever I come across someone who needs it I can give them one. I may not be able to help solve the big problem, but the least I can do is to help those I cross path with.

Health Ministry has 16 million N95 masks in national stockpile

The Ministry of Health has 16 million N95 masks stowed away and this national stockpile will be released to retailers and grassroots organisations to meet public demand if the haze situation escalates. This is in addition to 280,000 masks already in the inventories of major retailers here, said Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Transport Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, who shared this in Parliament yesterday in response to a question from Non-Constituency Member of Parliament Yee Jenn Jong. Singapore’s air quality crept into the “moderate” range for the first time since August, as the three-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) readings climbed to 51 at 11am yesterday.

S’pore urges Indonesia to share evidence on errant firms responsible for forest fires

Singapore has reiterated its call to the Indonesian government to share evidence relating to any involvement by Singapore-linked companies or Singaporeans in illegal land clearing practices in Indonesia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said this on Saturday in response to media queries on comments by Indonesian Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono. Mr Agung had said publicly that since 2013, the Indonesian police have launched 41 investigations against errant companies and individuals that may be involved in illegal land clearing practices in Indonesia. Mr Agung said some of these cases involved Singapore-linked companies or Singaporeans. MFA said that the Singapore government takes a serious view of these allegations.

Official: Indonesian Haze could hit Singapore soon

IN JAKARTA - The haze over Riau could hit Singapore soon as wind speeds change, the head of the local weather station said on Friday. "Wind movement that was previously from the north and east to the south has begun to reverse, so there's a chance the haze could reach Singapore," said Mr Sugarin, head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) station in Pekanbaru.
