S’PORE NAVY SHIP MV SWIFT RESCUE FINDS MAIN BODY OF AIR ASIA QZ8501

On Wednesday evening (14 January 2015), Singapore Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen announced the location of Air Asia flight QZ8501's fuselage and wings. He also revealed that the discovery was made by Singapore naval vessel, MV Swift Rescue. It utitlized its Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to conduct its underwater search operations and made the discovery.

S’PORE NAVY’S UNDERWATER RESCUE VESSEL JOINS QZ8501 RECOVERY EFFORTS

The fourth Republic of Singapore Navy vessel on standby for deployment in the AirAsia search operations departed Singapore yesterday evening, as Day 3 of the search turned up debris from the plane as well as bodies. The MV Swift Rescue — which was also deployed earlier this year in the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 — is a submarine support-and-rescue vessel that is equipped to perform underwater searches and can assist in the recovery effort.
