Just when you thought the MRT breakdowns are no more an in thing, this morning, SMRT tries to remind the public again that breakdowns are part of our lives. An east-bound stretch of the East-West Line (EWL) has been affected by a track fault at Redhill station on Wednesday morning.

MRTs in Singapore public transport should not be fetching lazy, fat Singaporeans. The main issue is that those fat and overweight Singaporeans are overburdening the MRTs.

It states that “There were seven delays that stretched more than 30 minutes between January and September 2015, compared to 10 in 2014. This year’s numbers have not included disruptions on the North East Line in October and the North South Line in November. Both delays lasted about two hours.”

Kishore Mahbubani, dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, had some harsh words for the state of Singapore's public transportation system yesterday, speaking as a panelist at the Singapore Economic Policy Forum today.

Thanks to The Online Citizen, Singaporeans have now discovered a resignation letter dated 2004 from a former veteran SMRT staff, which might shed light on why SMRT's trains keep breaking down. The most recent incident, which took place last week Tuesday during evening rush hour, paralyzed the entire island as massive human and vehicle jams plagued MRT stations and roads.

In what looks set to be another wasteful use of public tax payers money, the Land Transport Authority commissioned a study last year to find out what would solve problems such as crowding at MRT train doors and improve commuters' moods while taking the MRT.
