While Singaporeans will have to pay higher insurance premiums under the upcoming universal healthcare plan MediShield Life, the Government will ensure that "affordability should never be an issue", Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Thursday. The premiums payable for the upcoming healthcare plan, which will cover all Singaporeans and offer better protection against large medical bills, will be kept within each person's Medisave contributions, Mr Lee said.

What is at stake is not any short-term positive or negative impact on the government, but the sort of public debate Singapore should have. When someone makes false and malicious personal allegations that impugn a person’s character or integrity, the victim has the right to vindicate his reputation, whether he is an ordinary citizen or the prime minister. The internet should not be exempt from the laws of defamation. It is perfectly possible to have a free and vigorous debate without defaming anyone, as occurs often in Singapore.

Do Netizens prefer Lee Hsien Loong or Roy Ngerng?

On 15 May 2014, blogger Roy Ngerng accused Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of misappropriating CPF funds. The latter, in response, asked Roy to remove the post immediately, apologise, and give a written offer of damages and costs, or face legal action. Netizens responses were, not surprisingly, mixed. For instance, Online Citizen put up a citizen statement stating that the "threat of legal action is an oppressive tool with undue chilling effects on public discourse". In contrast, Sghardtruth wrote an article titled "To the youths: Blogger Roy Ngerng is NOT your hero".

Mini Lee receives warm welcome from KL public

Singapore prime minister's arrival at the shopping centre was welcomed by Bangsar Sdn Bhd head of operations David Wong, and this caught many shoppers by surprise. Many took the opportunity to pose for photographs with Lee who exuded warmth as he obliged their requests. Prior to this, Lee, wearing a casual pink shirt and Ho Ching spent time visiting the renowned Bukit Bintang shopping malls, including the Pavillion.
