MINDEF INTERNET SYSTEM BREACHED, DATA STOLEN! IS SG SAFE FROM CYBER ATTACKS?

Just recently, our dear PM had come out and said quite strongly that we must protect ourselves from online data theft, for this is the new wave of cyber attacks that we should be security conscious about. And of all the agencies to have their system breached, it is MINDEF? The breach, which happened earlier this month, has resulted in the personal data of 850 national servicemen and employees being stolen. No classified military data were stolen in the breach of the I-net system, MINDEF said. Classified military information is stored on a separate system that is not connected to the Internet and has more stringent security features, it added. Even so, to have data of your employees and national servicemen stolen is not a good way to shout out about your strong defenses.

MINDEF SAYS FOCUSING ON DOLLAR VALUE CHEAPENS NS, BUT STILL ANNOUNCED $100 VOUCHERS

Mindef's director of manpower Lee Chung Wei said focusing on the dollar value of the vouchers and other initiatives rolled out this year to celebrate NS "cheapens" the institution. He said: "NS is priceless - you can't put a dollar value to it... If you focus on a dollar value, you are actually cheapening NS." So, why then is he contradicting himself? Why announce Mindef giving the $100 vouchers? Even reported that the vouchers funded by the government.

DID S’POREANS RALLY TOGETHER TO SUPPORT MINDEF BREAKING OF HONG KONG LAWS?

Now that our Terrex ICVs have been returned on 30 January, Defence Minister Ng is not letting up on propaganda and has claimed in a Facebook post: “I am proud of how Singaporeans rallied together during this episode. Thank you for your support and encouragement.” As if still living in the pre-internet age, Ng has chosen to ignore all the negative comments on social media. Who supported Mindef’s screw up? Are Singaporeans so stupid to anyhow assume it’s OK to break Hong Kong laws?

However the Ministry has not stated if it will amend the POHA or introduce new laws to protect itself from false information.

WP CAUTIONS AGAINST AMENDING POHA TO PROTECT GOVT FROM HARASSMENT

The Workers’ Party welcomes the recent decision by the Court of Appeal in Attorney-General v Ting Choon Meng that government agencies such as MINDEF do not fall under the legal definition of “persons” under Section 15 of the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA). However, we are concerned by the Ministry of Law’s response to the ruling, which suggests that the Government is looking into taking further action on the matter.

At 6.30pm, on Thursday, I was on the DTL going towards Chinatown, on board was a group of blue clad soldiers, obviously from Mindef at Hillview. They were all sitting in a row. At Beauty World Station, an old man of about 75yrs got up and was tottering about with a walking-stick umbrella looking for a seat.

WHY SOME CIVIL SERVANTS GET MORE BONUSES THAN OTHERS WITH SAME PERFORMANCE GRADES?

In Civil Service, we have different ministries and Stat. Boards. Our bonuses for mid-year and end-year are pegged to the economy and we get the same rate. However, I am puzzled as to why our Performance Bonus are of a different rate. A 'C' grade in MINDEF can get an officer 3 to 3.5 months for bonuses, whereas in MOE it is only worth 1.5 to 2 months. I understand that job scope if different, but it is already differentiate via the salary system.
